It is so nice to have college basketball back. With the MLB season over, and the NFL taking place mainly on one day of the week, sports fans need a change of pace from the NHL and NBA sometimes. That is where NCAA men’s basketball comes in, and it just so happens Tuesday night will have plenty of action. While Madison Square Garden will be at the center of attention for college hoops fans with the State Farm Champions Classic taking place (Kentucky vs Michigan State and Duke vs Kansas), there are plenty of other noteworthy games taking place as well. It is a slate filled with ranked teams playing, but there is also a very interesting game taking place in Columbia, South Carolina against two non-ranked opponents.
That game will feature the Monmouth Hawks taking on the South Carolina Gamecocks. This Monmouth club returns practically every player from last season’s run that saw them captivate audiences around the world, thanks to an entertaining play on the court, and the classic celebrations from the now famous Monmouth Bench. The only key loss from last years roster is Deon Jones, who was a top-three player on the team. But stars Justin Robinson, Micah Seaborn and the rest of the crew are all back to go along with some new faces. They opened their season with a solid victory at home against the Drexel Dragons by a score of 78-65.

Their opponents, the Gamecocks of South Carolina. South Carolina is not expected to be making any runs at the SEC title this season, but they have opened the season up with a few victories. After two home games, the club sits with a 2-0 victory, with wins over the likes of the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs and the Holy Cross Crusaders. Monmouth will represent the team’s first true real test, and it will be interesting to see how they respond.
So while everyone has their attention on MSG and the State Farm Champions Classic, do not forget about the huge slate of college basketball games on the docket on Tuesday. There are plenty of interesting games to tune into, and this is certainly one of them. Just because a game does not feature two powerhouse teams does not mean it is not worth watching, as this game is certainly to be worth the watch, especially since Monmouth could finally be making their way back to the big dance this season, following last year’s snub.
