INGLEWOOD, CA – This was a very disappointing night for the Pittsburgh Steelers, as the prime-time struggles continued in a decisive loss to the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday Night Football.

The Chargers’ defense completely shut down the Steelers’ offense, preventing them from establishing any rhythm throughout the game.

Final score was Pittsburgh Steelers 10, (5-5), Los Angeles Chargers 25, (7-3).

The Chargers dominated on both sides of the ball and extended their winning streak to three games, while the Steelers fell to 0-3 in a prime-time game this season.

The story of the game was the inability of the Steelers’ offense, led by quarterback Aaron Rodgers, to move the ball against the Chargers’ defense.

  • Quarterback Woes:  Rodgers struggled
  Heavily, looking hurried and ineffective
all night.  He finished with just 161
yards (16-of-31 passing) with 1 touch-
down and 2 interceptions, in addition to
Taking a costly safety in the first quarter
where he was sacked by Khalil Mack in
  the end zone.
  • Third Down Failure:  The Steelers were
abysmal on third down, failing to
convert on their first nine attempts
and finishing the game just 2-of-11.
  • Turnovers:  The two interceptions and
A muffled punt resulted in crucial
points for the Chargers, stalling any
  potential Steelers comeback attempts.
  • Only TD:  The Steelers did not score
Their only touchdown until late in the
fourth quarter (2:57 remaining) on a
27-yard pass to Roman Wilson, long
  after the game was decided.

  • Chargers highlights:  The Chargers’
The defense held the Steelers to only 221
total yards of offense.  Khalil Mack had
the safety and multiple pressures, and
rookie R.J. Mickens had a key inter-
ception that set up the first touchdown.
  • Justin Herbert was efficient and
managed the game well, throwing 220
  yards and 1 touchdown.
  • Ladd McConkey is a second-year wide receiver
The receiver had a breakout night with 107
  yards and 4 catches, including a 16-yard
  touchdown and a massive 58-yard
catch that, set up a fourth-quarter
  touchdown run.
  • Chargers wide receiver, Keenan Allan
  surpassed Antonio Gate to become
  the franchise’s all-time leader inter-
  ceptions.

The Steelers will look to bounce back next Sunday in a critical AFC North division matchup when they host the Cincinnati Bengals.
