I don’t get it…I just don’t.
How do the Bears, and these fans, keep falling for this? The shiny new toy, I mean. The one that gets all the highlight packages, and the fanbase is split between “Super Bowl, I guarantee it” and “three minutes of highlights for me to slobber every Sunday”.
What do all these moves have in common? It’s old people(owners) trying to look cool to a young fanbase and trying to appease them. It’s the equivalent of Steve Buscemi with a backwards ball cap and a skateboard and going “How do you do, fellow kids”?!
You’ve heard them all before. Grossman over Orton because he had the exciting arm, Cedric Benson over Thomas Jones because “he could take it to the house”, trading Cutler for Orton because of the arm(which cost the team Arians), Mike Glennon over Brian Hoyer so they could tell the fans they spent money on a QB, Tarik Cohen over Jordan Howard instead of keeping the combo intact, the unnecessary Justin Fields draft pick, which caused a lot of losing.
And now Caleb Williams…the biggest mistake yet.
It’s like the Bears ownership found out about TMZ and Gen Z simultaneously, and want to be a part of it…about a decade late. They keep hearing all the echoes about picking Trubisky over Mahomes, which became Mahomes all of a sudden because he won Super Bowls and Watson couldn’t keep his kinks settled down. Oh yeah, and they forgot one thing.
Mahomes wouldn’t have been Mahomes with John Fox as coach. I’ve said that 10,000 times also.
I could say Caleb has Eberflus, a defensive whiz with a consistently boring offense, but it doesn’t even matter. They picked the QB with the least dawg in him than anyone because the fans and media slobbered over highlights.
They picked the guy that paints his fingernails and wears dresses.
They picked the guy that got them on Hard Knocks.
With those receivers and that talent, Ryan Poles has been an excellent GM. Only a couple mistakes, which is a tremendous winning percentage.
Problem is that the biggest loss will cost this team for at least another five years.
What might have been.
