In what will clearly be the biggest transfer of the summer transfer window. Italian powerhouse Juventus plan on unveiling their new signing on Saturday.
Cristiano Ronaldo is set to join Juventus for a transfer fee of $100 million. I know what you are wondering, why would a team spend $100 million on a 33-year-old player?
The answer is quite simple it’s the best player in the world. With Gianluigi Buffon retiring from Juventus last season the Old Lady needed a boost to keep them atop Serie A. Well they went out and got the biggest shot in the arm you could get in this signing.
In 2002, Juventus had a deal in place to bring in an 18-year-old Ronaldo, the deal was so far along that Ronaldo and his mom flew to Turin to have a physical done. Former Chile international star Marcelo Salas was the reason that transfer fell through. As part of the deal, Marcelo was supposed to go to Sporting but he refused to go and the transfer broke down.
One year later, Ronaldo joined Manchester United and well the rest is history. Juventus look to not history repeat itself and get this deal done this time.
What does this mean for Real Madrid?, Well with $100 million coming in that means money to spend and rumors have it they are targeting one if not both of Neymar and French national team stand out Mbappe.
Real Madrid seem to be at peace with Ronaldo wanting to move on and will look to replace him with some younger talent. Real could be making this a lot more difficult for Ronaldo and Juventus by honoring his one billion (Yes, billion with a B!) release clause but they have come out and said they will waive it, if someone were to offer $100 million for the transfer fee.
