Spending can be divided into two categories: necessities and luxuries. Then seek ways to reduce your luxuries. You may save money on modest daily expenses by analyzing your spending habits. Prioritize goals that will reduce your overall financial stress, like paying off a high-interest credit card in your budget.

Having an emergency fund in place, such as for auto repairs, job loss, or illness, can alleviate financial stress. The task of setting aside money for an unexpected need, such as three to six months’ worth of living expenses, might be daunting. It’s not the amount that matters—it’s the consistency with which you save. After taking into account the costs on your “needs list,” use your budget to evaluate how much you can save each month.
