Designing a new kitchen is not a quick process. Unlike the speed we see on shows like The Block, real kitchen design takes time, precision, and careful planning. Rushing through these stages can lead to significant issues later on, as even millimetre deviations can cause problems.
- Design Session
Every kitchen design/renovation project begins with a thorough kitchen design session. Whether it’s reviewing architectural plans for new builds or measuring and masking tape for renovations, we delve into your specific requirements, sparking creativity, and setting the design direction. Detailed photographs are taken for reference.
- Spatial Planning
Our kitchen designers visualise hidden potentials, creating floor plans, layouts, and elevations. We provide multiple layout options for your approval, ensuring every detail is meticulously specified. Detailed drawings allow for accurate quotations and guarantee the final product aligns with your expectations.
- Finishes & Fixtures
This phase involves the exciting task of assembling colour and material palettes based on the initial consultation brief. We carefully select door profiles, handles, splashbacks, benchtops, taps, and sinks. Physical samples and 3D renders are presented for client’s approval.
- Final Documentation
Once all selections are made, we confirm the final documentation. This stage typically takes approximately 6 weeks from the initial consultation, with the possibility of accommodating shorter lead times for priority cases.
- Appoint Builder/Joiner
With a fully documented project, homeowners can contact builders/joiners to discuss the work and associated costs. Interior designers can assist in finding the right fit for the project and ensure a harmonious and precise build.
- Demolition and/or Site Evaluation
For renovations, a walk-through with the builder determines structural changes. The timeline varies based on the scope of work required.
- Trades Onsite
Plumbers, electricians, plasterers, and flooring specialists work on site to prepare the space for installation.
- Joinery Measure
Then meet with the joiner, review the drawing package, and make precise measurements, accounting for any slight variations in dimensions.
- Installation
Installation typically occurs around 4-6 weeks from measurement and can take a few days to a few weeks, depending on the project’s size.
- Stone Measure and Installation
Benchtops and splashbacks are measured with millimetre accuracy, and stone or other materials are installed.
- Tiler – Splash Back
The tiler returns to showcase the beautiful splashback tile.
- Plumbers, Electricians, Painter, Joiner/Builder
These trades return to complete the final fittings, coatings, touch-ups, and walkthroughs to ensure everything is in order.
With all above steps, a proper kitchen renovation without significant building works usually takes 8-12 weeks, depending on trade availability. If custom design, joinery or designer kitchen applications need to be made and installed, it could take longer than 12 weeks potentially.
