Have you ever been to a cookout and tasted what will account for the best barbecue sauce in the world? You head over to the cook and ask “where did you buy this from” and they just give you a smile? Right, there is the tell-tell sign that no stores sell it, that was their own creation but, you will never know the recipe.
Most cooks are like that. Their recipes are their’s and you will have to threaten them with death before they tell you the secret ingredients, and even then they make take it to the grave with them. Each person may have their own way of doing things but I will share with you my secret ingredients for some of the best tasting BBQ Sauce.
Be mindful that secret recipes may contain ingredients that you think do not belong together. Here is what I use.
First thing first, gets a bottle of BBQ Sauce. It doesn’t matter what brand, depending on what you’re going for you can get Original, Honey, it doesn’t matter. Once you have the sauce, now you can focus on what will make it special. There are no really crazy ingredients, most of them you probably have in your kitchen anyway. You just never thought of combining them.
Grab a bowl big enough to stir in, depending on the size of the party you will be cooking for. Head over to the fridge and look for these ingredients.
- Honey Mustard
- Red Vinegar
- Hot Sauce
Now, depending on the size (mine is normally for 15) you will need to add just the right amount of everything or people will begin to taste what the ingredients are and that will take away from the original taste of the barbecue sauce.
Once you have all ingredients in front of you, it’s time to measure out the specific amount. First, add the bottle of sauce. Then add 1/3 cup of Honey Dijon Mustard (the mustard brings a spice to). Next, you will add 1/4 cup of Red Vinegar (the vinegar adds taste but the aroma it will give off will attract anyone to the sauce). Next, add 1/3 cup Hot Sauce (this is the kick that will have everyone talking). Lastly, you will add 1/3 cup of Ketchup (Ketchup is like flavored ice on Jack Daniels).
Once all ingredients are added, stir for three minutes and leave out to stay at room temperature until it’s time to use. The ingredients may seem weird, but the taste is superb. You will thank me later.
