The National League Divisional Series, or as you may know it, the NLDS, got rolling on Friday. Game one between the NL West champs, the Los Angeles Dodgers, and the NL East champs, the Washington Nationals, was expected to be a pitching duel. Two aces, Clayton Kershaw and Max Scherzer, took the mound in the Nation’s Capital. Neither man had his best stuff, as both gave up a handful of runs, but it was Kershaw who came out on top. Kenley Jansen came in for a five-out save, and the Dodgers took game one on the road by a score of 4-3.

Rookie shortstop Corey Seager got the ball rolling by launching a home run off the National’s ace on the first pitch he saw in the first inning. It would be his only hit in the game, but it proved to be a big one, as the game was decided by a sole run. Third baseman Justin Turner also supplied two hits, one of which went over the fence, and drove in two runs. Anthony Rendon supplied most of the offense for Washington, as he went two for four with two runs batted in.

Game two in Washington will be an extremely important game for the Nats. A loss in this one would send them to Los Angeles on the brink of elimination. The Nationals will be sending Tanner Roark, and his 16 wins to the bump on Saturday, while the Dodgers send Rich Hill and his 2.12 ERA to the bump. Between his stints with Oakland and Los Angeles this season, this will be Hill’s first start against the Nats on the season. Roark on the other hand, did get to face the Dodgers, be it only once, however. In that start back in late June, Roark took the loss despite going into the eighth inning, as he gave up three runs on seven base-runners.

The evening could end with a tie series as we head to the West Coast for game three on Monday, or the Dodgers could be in firm control, just like both the Toronto Blue Jays and Cleveland Indians currently are in the ALDS match-ups.
