Tonight Albert Pujols hit two home runs, the latest one puts him in select company as he has reached 700 career home runs. The others are Babe Ruth, Hank Aaron, and Barry Bonds.
Now that Pujols has accomplished the incredible feat, it is time to take a look at some of his milestone home runs. His first career home run came on April 6, 2001 on the road against the Arizona Diamondbacks. He hit a two-run home run off Armando Reynoso in the fourth inning.
He finished his rookie season with 37 home runs and won the National League Rookie of the Year, while coming in fourth in voting for National League Most Valuable Player. Home run no.100 came off Los Angeles Dodgers starter Odalis Perez. A two-run shot and his 29th of the season.
Noteworthy in that same game Rickey Henderson hit a home run for the Dodgers.
For home run no.200 he hit a grand slam off of Cincinnati Reds reliever Matt Belisle. Pujols hit home run no.300 off of a division rival reliever of the Chicago Cubs, Bob Howry. It was a solo shot, so was home run no.400 which came off Washington National starter Jordan Zimmermann.
He hit two home runs in a game to reach home run no.500, which was off Nationals starter Taylor Jordan. 600 was memorable as it was another grand slam, this one was hit off Minnesota Twins starter, Ervin Santana.
To reach 700, Pujols needed another multi-homer run game hitting 699 off former teammate Andrew Heaney in the third inning and in the fourth hit a three-run homer off Dodgers reliever Phil Bickford.
Pujols enjoyed facing Ryan Dempster as he hit eight home runs off of him, he hit six off Wade Miller, Aaron Harang, Randy Johnson, Roy Oswalt, Ian Snell, Chris Capuano, Carlos Zambrano, Derek Holland, and Perez all gave up five.
