Well week 1 of the American Football conference is over and there was some interesting storylines that we will be watching. For instance Ed Oliver of Houston is every bit as advertised and that dude is going to make a stud d lineman in the nfl. McKenzie Milton looks even better then he did under Scott Frost at UCF. If UConn could block for David Pindell they could be a very good offense. South Florida, I mean usf, I mean who knows what they are calling them self personally I like Tampa Bay University, QB Blake Barnett might have found a home in Tampa. Memphis fans worried about the drop off at QB had to have loved the performance by Brady White. And Cincinnati getting a big win on the west coast against a decent PAC 12 team in UCLA and ruining Chip Kelly’s return to college football.
The Good
UCF- Defending National Champs and Heisman hopeful Milton McKenzie looked as if nothing had changed for them as a matter of fact they looked better offensively and defensively. At one point in the game UCF had 35 points in 11 Minutes of time of possession that’s Ann average of 3 points a minute.
Cincinnati- Luke Fickell’s team looked sharp and disposed of a decent PAC 12 team and in turn ruining Chip Kelly’s return to college football.
Houston-Struggled in the first half but ended up with a dominating win against Rice and Ed Oliver looks as good as advertised this year. I know UCF and McKenzie Milton are happy to not have to see him in the regular season this year.
Tampa Bay University (formerly known as USF)- Was good enough to get the win against Elon up next Georgia Tech.
Memphis- Put up a 66 burger this week and will look to pick up where they left off last season.
Tulsa- In a battle with central Arkansas state they did come out with a win and that’s why they are here.
The Bad
Navy- Went on the road and lost to Hawaii now normally this might get you in the ugly category but remember the jet lag and the fact that I think Hawai’i might be a 9 or 10 win team this season.
Tulane- This was a disappointment for me as I had high hopes for Tulane this year. But let’s not confuse they lose to a bowl eligible Wake Forest team. Cant beat them up too much for this.
UConn- Yes they lost 56-17 but they lost to defending champs UCF and to be honest that’s not a terrible loss.
The Ugly
Temple- Man did they look bad losing to Villanova, now I get it that it was a rivalry game but still inexcusable.
SMU- Losing to North Texas was terrible and I don’t expect it will get much better for this bunch.
ECU- For the second straight year ECU has lost to an FCS school to open the season. I won’t say Scottie Montgomery is going to lose his job but he is definitely on the hot seat and it’s only getting hotter.
