“Seriously, when the going gets tough, you don’t want a criminal lawyer… You want a criminal lawyer.”– Jessie Pinkman on Saul Goodman.

With just 3 episodes left, AMC has opted to sign on for a Breaking Bad spinoff.

The show, “Better Call Saul” (named after the attorney’s slogan), will be a one-hour prequel to the famous drama that will focus on the evolution of the popular Saul Goodman character before he met Walter White (Bryan Cranston). Deadline says that the show won’t be as dark as Breaking Bad, and will not be made like a traditional sitcom.

Saul Goodman (played by Bob Odenkirk) debuted on Breaking Bad in season two, frequently appearing as mainly Walter, Jessie and a slew of other characters lawyer, but quickly became the comic relief for the show.

The Creator of Breaking Bad; Vince Gilligan had this to say of the spinoff.

“I would love to see a Saul Goodman spinoff. I like the idea of a lawyer show in which the main lawyer will do anything it takes to stay out of a court of law. He’ll settle on the courthouse steps, whatever it takes to stay out of the courtroom. That would be fun — I would like that.”

Having the show be a prequel to the events that transpired on Breaking Bad makes it that much better. It doesn’t ruin anything for fans of Saul and what may happen to him in the last three episodes. Also, besides Gus (who probably couldn’t carry a show on his own), Saul is easily one if not the most interesting character on the show.

Every time the camera is in his lobby to his office. The room is full of obscure, interesting characters that I for one would love to see Saul interact with. As of now, “Better Call Saul” has no production/start-up date, so I wouldn’t expect this show to come any time soon.

We at the Inscriber will keep you posted though on any future news.
