Last year was a season that many fans can say they didn’t see coming. Ending the season with a 13-3 record and playoff appearance, the Dallas Cowboys set the bar high for what fans and management could expect the following season. Now it seems like last season went to the players’ heads.
Nolan Carroll, a player brought in to improve the secondary has not. In fact, the only thing he’s done to put himself in the news was get arrested soon after his arrival in Dallas. Not only that, but David Irving has also been suspended for performance enhancing substances. Now, two-year Cowboys veteran Damien Wilson was arrested on July 4th, for assault with a deadly weapon. NFL.com reports say “The incident occurred in the Toyota Stadium parking lot during a Freedom Fest event in Frisco shortly after 8 p.m. CDT. According to the police report, Wilson backed his truck into a woman while parking at the stadium before brandishing a rifle at a man, causing him to be in fear.”
In addition to this, Dak Prescott has been accused of stamping his name on items a sports memorabilia store wanted him to sign by hand. ESPN.com reports, “Steve Grad, principal authenticator at Beckett, said his company looked at five autographed cards from collectors who received Prescott autograph redemptions from Panini’s 2016 Prizm set. “They had a very machine-like feel,” Grad said according to ESPN. “You could see the starts and stops.” Per ESPN, “The lack of natural flow associated with organic signatures led to Grad’s conclusion that they were done by autopen, a machine that politicians have used to sign documents in bulk since the late 1950s.” “I immediately knew they were autopen,” Grad said. “I’ve never heard of a modern athlete doing this.”
Now, it does seem like a very interesting issue, but it doesn’t seem like all the facts are known about the memorabilia. There is a good chance Prescott never saw the cards in question. With that said, Prescott’s reputation may already have a negative mark against it pending results of this situation. On the outside, this issue seems almost trivial. However, once new information comes up, it will be reported here.
