Fans awaiting news on the DC Comics movie slate got some good news over the Christmas holiday, as Shazam will be featured in the same Cinematic universe as Superman, Batman and all of DC’s other superheroes.
Comic book fans were under the impression that the film, which stars Dwayne Johnson as Black Adam, was not going to be a part of the DC Cinematic Universe. However, a recent blog post from DC stated that
“Warner Brothers revealed a full slate of ten DC Entertainment feature films all set within the same universe.”
Judging by what was said, it appears the Shazam film will run congruently with DC’s other projects.
However, what is not clear is whether the film will crossover with any of the studios other superhero stories. The situation could be similar to that of Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy, where the film is set in the same universe but does not directly relate to the other films.
Speaking of Guardians of The Galaxy, the films director, James Gunn, was asked whether he would have interest in doing the Shazam feature. Unfortunately the answer was not promising.
“I am precluded. Would have loved to have done Shazam.”
It seems as if Gunn’s commitment to Marvel will prevent him from working on the film.
There is still plenty of time to find a capable director, and with Dwyane Johnson already aboard, it shouldn’t be too hard to find a willing candidate.
