Fans of Guillermo del Toro are fortunate to get an early look at his next film, Crimson Peak, now that the official trailer has been released online.

Crimson Peak takes place at a decaying mansion in the rural northern English county of Cumbria, which makes a perfect setting for this visceral and atmospheric horror film. The plot description found at IMDb is as follows.

“In the aftermath of a family tragedy, an aspiring author is torn between love for her childhood friend and the temptation of a mysterious outsider. Trying to escape the ghosts of her past, she is swept away to a house that breathes, bleeds … and remembers”.

Crimson Peak was directed by del Toro, who also wrote the script with Matthew Robbins and Lucinda Coxon. The cast features the talents of Tom Hiddleston, Mia Wasikowska, Jessica Chastain, Charlie Hunnam, and Doug Jones.

Whether it’s in a directorial or producorial capacity, del Toro has a penchant for showing his audience a world that is both fantastic and also horrific. He uses his vision to bring creatures and beings out of the darkest corners of the subconscious mind to walk amongst us in the real world.

Unfortunately, fans will have to wait until the film is released on October 16th to partake in his latest cinematic feat. Will it be worth the wait? We shall see.
