Theeeey’re heeeeeere…OK, they’re actually a few months away. In any case, the trailer for the new Poltergeist is here and it’s just above for anybody who wishes to take a peek. And for any fellow coulrophobes out there – yes, they brought their own *expletive deleted* clown doll with them.
The 1982 version of Poltergeist told the story of a family living in cookie cutter southern California suburbia. The family begins to encounter paranormal phenomena that seem to focus on the youngest daughter, Carol Anne. When Carol Anne disappears under frighteningly bizarre circumstances, her parent seek the help of paranormal researchers to help find her and bring her back. Everyone soon realizes that whatever is holding Carol Anne on the other side, is a force to be reckoned with and will not easily let her go.
This summer will mark the return of Poltergeist by way of remake, reboot, re-imagining, or however moviegoers wish to refer to this incarnation of the movie. Although there will be a semblance of the original, it is being given an update to be more accessible to contemporary audiences.
In an interview for Collider, Sam Rockwell discussed the level of scariness audiences can expect from the movie since it was given a PG-13 rating.
“…I don’t know if it’s gonna be like rated-R scary. It’s not like Conjuring type of scary. You know, it’s a different kind of movie. It’s more of an adventure. It’s essentially a child abduction film when you come down to it. I mean, the original Poltergeist is too.”
Gil Kenan directed this remake based on a script penned by David Lindsay-Abaire. The cast features Sam Rockwell, Jared Harris, Rosemarie DeWitt, Saxon Sharbino, Kyle Catlett, Kennedi Clements, and Jane Adams.
Poltergeist will be arriving at theaters, in the thick of the summer movie season, with a release date of July 24th.
