David Price and Robinson Cano have been grabbing most of the headlines this week. However, a blockbuster trade gave the Diamondbacks some poison to add to their bite. Mark Trumbo, one of the game’s best emerging power hitters, will be playing for the Arizona Diamondbacks for the 2014 season. The four year veteran hit 34 home runs and drove in 100 runs.
Trumbo was part of a three team trade among the Angels, Diamondbacks, and White Sox.
Here is the breakdown:
Arizona Diamondbacks get: First baseman Mark Trumbo
Los Angeles Angels get: Pitcher Hector Santiago from Chicago
Pitcher Tyler Skaggs from Arizona
Chicago White Sox get: Outfielder Adam Eaton
Arizona was in the playoff chase last year. They eventually lost ground to the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Dodgers gained momentum and eventually clinched the National League West Division.
If this is one of many moves planned by Arizona, there could be an interesting battle between the Diamondbacks and Dodgers. It will take more than this but the Diamondbacks could be molded into a serious playoff contender.
