The Sundance Film Festival is the premier movie event in the world. Every year fresh, new and exciting films are showcased to studios in an attempt to gain exposure, and that all elusive distribution deal. One film that had the Sundance community talking was Z for Zachariah.

The film, which is based off the Robert C. O’Brien novel, is a science fiction story that details the relationship of three strangers in a post-apocalyptic world.

While the story is strong enough on its own,  it’s cast is just as powerful. With Chris Pine (Star Trek, Into the Woods) Margot Robbie (Wolf of Wall Street) and Chiwetelu Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave) involved, the film features a collection of underrated and excellent talents.

Z for Zachariah was successful before it’s Sundance showing on January 24th. The film scored a distribution deal with Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions, and is expected to be released sometime this spring.

While the Sundance Film Festival doesn’t feature the big summer blockbusters, it does show a wide array of films that are looking to get noticed. Z for Zachariah is looking to become this year’s Whiplash, a film which goes from Sundance to the mainstream audience.

Is it worth the Sundance hype? Fans can find out soon enough.
