If there is one attribute that leaders all over the world share in common, it’s the pursuit of achieving success in their collective efforts. However, there is quite a significant variance in how every person chooses to define what success would look like for them. Whatever the case is, one thing is for sure; success doesn’t come without effort, and this effort is all that Silvia Doomra’s journey of achieving long-lasting success has been all about.
Silvia was born and raised in India. She had grown up watching her mother pursue her passion for medicine and desired to do the same – live her dream, and so she did. As a young girl, she was excellent in Math and wanted to become an engineer. Silvia did her Bachelor in Engineering from Chandigarh and became one.
After her Bachelor’s, she joined Microsoft. It is a place where there is enormous competition, as Microsoft gets millions of applications annually. It also has one of the most challenging interview processes in the market. After completing all the requirements, Silvia got a job there and launched the Data Residency Program. The target regions for the program were Brazil, Singapore, China, India, South Arabia, Canada, and EU Data Boundary (Schrems II) requirements across all teams at Microsoft. She launched this program with the mission for Microsoft to meet data residency requirements across the globe, and she built it from scratch, from vision to requirements, to track the progress and drive results.
Working at Microsoft taught her to take risks, push her boundaries, and she got to grow more than she thought was possible. Silvia proved to be a great employee at Microsoft and enjoyed genuine human connection in addition to the bonuses and other benefits that were provided to her because the company invests in its people.
Silvia was also a Panelist at Women in Science and Engineering (WISE), University of Washington, taught Intro to CS at Quincy High School and made a world of difference in her students’ lives for a year. At this place, she learned to work in a constantly evolving environment and adjust her teaching methods according to her students’ requirements.
Silvia additionally launched Azure-to-Azure Workload Migration Program, now productized as Azure Resource Move. She was a Senior Program Manager there and used her knowledge of organization and management tactics to provide structured expertise to open-sourced elastic scale solutions. Her team was one of the first to launch the library as open source in SQL Azure organization.
Silvia’s work, without a doubt, is stellar. She knows how to communicate what she wants and is a treat to work with. People who have worked with her have repeatedly said she has complete control over the work environment. Yet, she is not controlling, which perfectly sums up Silvia’s personality.
