Well after one week Carson Wentz has proven me wrong. As the season opened, I thought it was crazy to start a rookie quarterback who took 24 snaps in the preseason over a capable veteran. But Wentz looked good in week one, and the Philadelphia Eagles soared to a 29-10 victory over the Browns. Meanwhile, the Chicago Bears went into Houston and were handled by the Houston Texans, who won the game 23-14. This week’s action will see the Eagles go into Chicago on Monday night and take on those Bears.
Now week one had some promising signs for Wentz and the Eagles. But his low completion percentage paired with Zach Ertz’s injury, and the Eagles offense may not be the same this week. They also benefited from getting the Browns in week one, which is always a welcome sight. So this week will be the true first test for the team.
Their defense has some talent, and could be a difference maker in the long run. But when all is said and done on this one, it will be Wentz’s performance that determines the outcome. How will he handle going from an easy game against the Browns to the bright lights of Monday night?
As for the Bears, I simply do not think they are that good of a team. Jay Cutler and the club are capable of posting some points, but there is nothing consistent about the team.
Chicago’s defense probably falls under the common category, along with their receivers and running backs. Overall there simply is not a standout thing about the Bears, and they will need to win this one thanks to Wentz showing he is a rookie.
Even though I could very well see Wentz struggling, I simply cannot lay points with the Bears. The Eagles are more talented, so I will chance Wentz getting picked apart and take the points. Even if they lose, they could still pull it out if they can keep it to one or two points. As for the over/under, I foresee a handful of turnovers in this one. Therefore, it will be more of a defensive game than an offensive one.
