NFL Mock Draft pre-Combine edititon
Which picks will shakeup the 2017 NFL Mock Draft, Pre-Combine Edition?

17th Pick: Washington Redskins- Malik McDowell (DE) – Michigan State

The Redskins need defensive talent all over the board. Malik McDowell is best suited as a 3-4 defensive end as a taller defensive lineman and has the traits that can be described as a talented disruptor at the next level. While his stats do not show the production that teams want with such talent and physical makeup, McDowell can develop his skills in the NFL as he is a really young player at 20 years old. McDowell has a lot of upside for the NFL and his talent is needed at defensive end as Chris Baker is there but is getting older. Baker needs an eventual replacement or someone to play next to him to get to the quarterback and stop the run.

18th Pick: Tennessee Titans- Quincy Wilson (CB) – Florida

The Titans go at secondary again with another selection, this time fixing their cornerback problem. The Titans need youth, talent, and starting potential in their cornerback group as Jason McCourty is getting older and not getting any better. Getting Quincy Wilson from Florida would be a nice solution to that problem. While he has the size and build of a safety, he can cover pretty well, especially bigger receivers. Wilson to some is touted better than his counterpart Teez Tabor and I think he has the height to start outside. He does tend to give separation to quicker receivers and does not have the best footwork, I think he can be a starter cornerback at the next level and be a pretty good one at that if he works on some minor issues. Wilson would excel in zone oriented defenses and can read and react to the ball naturally with good awareness and ball skills.

19th Pick: Tampa Bay Buccaneers- David Njoku (TE) – Miami (FL.)

Another receiving tight end that can be an athletic deep threat, David Njoku out of Miami (FL.) can be a weapon Jameis Winston would love to have in the offense with Mike Evans at receiver. Although he might not be the best blocker, Njoku has dynamic speed and is used as a big receiver over the middle. Njoku had 698 yards and 8 touchdowns in 2016 and shows flashes of upside. The Buccaneers do have Cameron Brate but a game changing tight end like Njoku would upgrade the offense in the receiver game and Brate is not a big play threat like Njoku. They could run twin tight end sets with Brate and Njoku and give Winston more options to throw to.

20th Pick: Denver Broncos- Cam Robinson (OL) – Alabama

After hearing that the Broncos are switching to a power running scheme via Broncos Wire, I knew that Cam Robinson out of Alabama would be a nice fit here. The Broncos have to address offensive line as the offensive tackle and guard positions were terrible and Trevor Siemian and the offense, especially the run game, suffered from that immensely. A tackle prospect who could also be a good fit at guard would be a nice selection here as they need a big mauler to help run block and pass protect when need be. He did play against high-level competition in college at left tackle but could switch to guard or right tackle in the NFL. He does have a minor off field issue but a highly touted and talented offensive lineman is needed here.

21st Pick: Detroit Lions- Taco Charlton (DE) – Michigan

Ziggy Ansah had a down year in 2016 coming off of injuries and just inconsistencies in his play. A Michigan defensive end to pair with him like a Taco Charlton would help the defense in the pass rushing department. I see him as a 4-3 defensive end so he fits here even though he has been rising lately as a high upside pass rusher. In 2016, he was part of a talented and high profile Michigan defense and had 10 sacks. But other than that, the production is not there for a big and talented defensive end like Charlton and did not start till 2016. Some question if he is consistent enough in run stopping and does he play with enough toughness and demeanor. But I see this as a great fit here for Detroit needing defensive talent overall.
