NBA TV’s Fan Night featured a matchup of emerging big men in Anthony Davis and Demarcus Cousins, with the New Orleans Pelicans escaping with a 106-100 victory.
The Good: Anthony Davis was his usual self last night with a stat line of 28 points, nine rebounds, and three blocks. His Team USA counterpart Demarcus Cousins, put up 24 points and 17 rebounds. Pelicans floor-spacing extraordinaire Ryan Anderson, knocked down four shots from beyond the arc en route to a 22-point night.
The Bad: Jason Thompson had 10 points at the four-minute mark of the 1st quarter, and he finished the night with 15 points. His offensive game would have been welcomed for the Kings who instead have given more time to Carl Landry.
The Pelicans were outrebounded on the offensive glass, 17-4. A big reason for this was the loss of big man Omer Asik, who missed his second straight game with a back injury. In his place, the team started Alexis Ajinca.
Sideline Notes: Rudy Gay signed a contract extension with Kings on Monday worth $40 million over three-years. New Orleans improved their record to 6-4 with the win, and currently are tied with the San Antonio Spurs in the highly completive Southwest division.
Meanwhile, Sacramento fell to 6-5 and are sitting with the ninth best record in the Western Conference.
