Phoenix, Arizona
The Valley of the Sun, PHX, Phoenix has a lot of worthy monikers, and all of them are worthy of it’s namesake rising from the proverbial ashes in becoming one of the nation’s largest cities.
With a population of over 1.5 million, Phoenix is the sixth-largest city in the United States, and as the capital of Arizona is the largest capital city in the country.
Once seen as a obscure retirement backwater for northern snowbirds from the North and East, Phoenix has exploded into a entertainment and sports mecca thanks to building new sports complexes for the Phoenix Suns in the form of the Talking Stick Resort Arena in downtown Phoenix, the Arizona Coyotes in suburban Glendale and University of Phoenix Stadium, home of the Arizona Cardinals.
Within the last decade, Phoenix has hosted two Super Bowls (XLII, XLIX) a Pro Bowl, the College Football Playoff National Championship game, the 2016 Copa America Centenario and the upcoming 2017 NCAA Final Four.
Make no mistake, Phoenix is the place to be if you’re a sports fan.
Aside from sports, Phoenix is also the home of notable actors and models such as Amber Valetta and recently-crowns Best Actress and Golden Globe Award winner, Emma Stone.
With all things from Phoenix on the rise, model Summer Sunley hopes to add to that streak.
A native of the greater Phoenix area, the 5’1 brown-haired stunner has already modeled for brands such as fitness brand, Cut Above Clothing and has recently signed with Denver-based boutique modeling agency, NXT|model, the oppurtunites are abound for the petite beauty.
Below is my Q and A with Mrs. Sunley as we discuss modeling, spring fashion tips and her beloved Jayhawks playing in her own backyard.

Robert D. Cobb: What kind of model do you consider yourself? (Instagram, pin-up/glamour, fashion)
Summer Sunley: “I wouldn’t say I am any specific type of model. I have done many different types of shoots from portraits to artistic. I hope I never land into just one category, the sky is the limit and I am always open minded to hearing what an artist’s vision is.
I have recently signed with an agency called NXT|model in Denver, Colorado and so I am optimistic that this is just the start.”
Robert D. Cobb: What brands have you modeled for? Which one do you enjoy modeling for the most?
Summer Sunley: “I have been a brand ambassador for ‘Cut Above Clothing’ a fitness clothing line. Late last year, I filmed for a show called Spotlight Local which highlighted at home fitness routines. That has been one of my favorite projects because it was the first time I had been filmed for anything.
It forced me to work extremely hard and get out of my comfort zone. As for other brands, I have some projects ‘in the works’ I don’t want to speak too soon and jinx them.”
Robert D. Cobb: Where has been your favorite place to shoot?
Summer Sunley: “Shooting outdoors is and always will be my favorite. I love the natural light and energy of being outdoors. It simply feels the most relaxed. More specifically, I like abandoned areas and buildings. The dark and eerie vibe can bring out great emotion for photos.”
Robert D. Cobb: What is the most exciting aspect of modeling?
Summer Sunley: “The most exciting part about modeling is the continuation of networking and meeting like-minded individuals. There is ALWAYS art to create, that alone is exciting.”
Robert D. Cobb: With spring now here, what fashion and style tips and trends do you have for looking good when the temperature drops?
Summer Sunley: “I am a firm believer that less is more when it comes to make up. Let that skin breathe!! Especially with warmer weather nothing is more beautiful than a natural glow.”
Robert D. Cobb: Within the industry, who is your inspiration?
Summer Sunley: “This industry is huge. I wouldn’t say I have one inspiration. I am obsessed with following beauty and fashion trends. I also love keeping up with new and upcoming models. It is essential in this industry to always be right behind the ‘newest’ fad.
I enjoy seeing changes in the industry and how the expectation of models and their look is expanding. I am proud to be in an ever-growing industry and I hope to continue to see people ‘breaking the mold’ of what a model is.”
Robert D. Cobb: What is your secret to staying in shape?
Summer Sunley: “I have no secret to staying in shape. Anyone who knows me knows that I advocate for a lifestyle change not a diet for a quick change. I believe in feeding myself for survival and longevity.”
Robert D. Cobb: Outside of modeling, what are your hobbies?
Summer Sunley: “There is so much to life. My list of hobbies is forever changing. One of my most favorite things to do is write. I write every single day. Poetry is my utmost favorite. Until recently many didn’t know I was a writer.
It was as if my love for writing were a secret that I liked keeping to myself. I am starting to be comfortable enough to share more. Other than writing I really enjoy the outdoors and cooking for my family.”
Sports question: Who are your favorite teams and clubs
Summer Sunley: “DALLAS COWBOYS!! College basketball I go for KU (Kansas University) Jayhawks”
Robert D. Cobb: Since you’re a professed Jayhawks fan, how do you like their chances in the Final Four?
Summer Sunley: “Jayhawks always have a strong chance! Wouldn’t want to speak too soon and jinx it.”
Robert D. Cobb: What are your favorite cities to travel to?
Robert D. Cobb: What advice would you give to women aspiring to get into modeling?
Something a photographer friend and I always say to help break out of the comfort zone is, “Learn to act truthfully in imaginary circumstances.” He is also the one who took all of the wonderful pictures of me in this spread. David D Wallace.”
