With what little we know of Captain Marvel fans still won’t be able to resist seeing the next step in Marvel’s master plan. So far the studio has done little wrong in the eyes of their audience. They’ve built their powerhouse leading heroes like Captain America and Iron Man. There lesser known heroes like Ant-Man and Doctor Strange have made their presence felt in the MCU. Now, Marvel is shifting focus yet again to the heroine known as Captain Marvel.

Not to be confused with the DC character who would later be known as Shazam, Carol Danvers is MArvel’s attempt to replicate another strong iconic comic book character Wonder Woman. Like her rival DC counterpart, Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel is said to be the strongest of her universes heroes. Her story has crossed paths with Marvel icons such as the Avengers and X-men as well as stood out on her own as an independent staple in the Marvel Universe. Unfortunately for fans, we won’t see her solo film until 2019, which after hearing she won’t appear in Avengers: Infinity War could be the first time we see her character.

What we know so far:

Captain Marvel will star Brie Larson as well as bring back Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury. Larson has been a whirl wind of popularity appearing in films such as Kong: Skull Island, 21 Jump Street, Trainwreck, and Room. The latter of films she won an Oscar for Best Actress.

It will be set in the 1990’s. The most interesting decision for this film is the time frame. Captain Marvel seemed like a good fit for the direction of the MCU. Now it appears we’re getting another throwback of sorts. Much like Wonder Woman was before the events of the current DCEU events, Captain Marvel will be before the early stages of the Marvel universe? Could this be planned to bring back some of Marvel’s forgotten heroes in bigger roles or cameo appearances?

We will finally see the on-screen debut of the Skrull. Rumors are kicking up all around the internet that basing the movie on the shape-shifting Skrull in the 1990’s will set up the Secret Invasion story arc. The Alien race has been kicking around the comics since the earlier stages. Could this be the big time baddies Marvel has needed?

Marvel has long needed a stand alone female protagonist. Fans have longed for a solo project since the days of Scarlett Johansen as Black Widow. Unfortunately for Marvel, the character herself isn’t enough to take on one of DC’s Trinity. Arguably three of the most iconic characters in history are Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman. DC has made those three into a cultural phenomenon in comics as well as on the big screen. DC has made those three into a cultural phenomenon in comics as well as on the big screen. As well known as Captain Marvel is to comic book fans, she doesn’t hold a candle to Wonder Woman in the public eye.

After the success of her stand-alone film, Wonder Woman crept back into people’s hearts with the DCEU’s first real critically acclaimed film. There’s no doubt that Captain Marvel will wow Marvel fans and movie goers alike. However, with the lesser known of the two characters, it will be an uphill battle to overthrow her predecessor, deeming this true or false: False!
