LONDON (UK) – After pulling off the biggest surprise in the transfer window, Arsenal seem set to make another deft move outside of it.

According to media reports via agent, Ioan Becali, The Gunners are close to landing Romanian striker, Ciprian Marica.  The 27-year-old Marica is able to sign with any team outside of the transfer window due to contract talks with former club, Schalke falling apart in the summer.

Thanks to the losses of forwards Lukas Podolski, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and the failed pursuits of Gonzalo Higuain, Wayne Rooney and Luis Suarez, Arsenal need to add depth being lone talisman Olivier Giroud.

Considering their current dilemma, Marica at Arsenal is a bargain. Able to play as a second striker, with an ability to play wide on the flank, a hypothetical Marica-Giroud pairing up front would give Arsenal a deadly one-two punch.

While Giroud has more finesse and touch, Marica could be the proverbial yin to Giroud’s yang, thanks to a deadly left foot and strong pace.

In two years with the Schalke, Marica tallied five goals in 34 apps and 22 goals in international play for Romania.
