Philadelphia Eagle outside linebacker Haason Reddick was a force against the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Conference Championship Game. He recorded three tackles, two sacks, forced a fumble and recovered a fumble.
A tweet was sent out about his play against San Francisco and how he got snubbed for the Defensive Player of the Year Award nomination. The three nominees were Michah Parsons of the Dallas Cowboys, Chris Jones of the Kansas City Chiefs, and Nick Bosa of the 49ers.
The answer is that he was not snubbed.
For Parsons he is arguably the most versatile defensive player in the National Football League. He ended the season with 65 tackles with 14 tackles for loss, 13.5 sacks, 27 quarterback hits, 41 pressures, three forced fumbles, three passes defended, three fumble recoveries with one returned for a touchdown and a snap percentage of 80 percent.
Parsons was also targeted 11 times allowing nine catches for 82 yards. He also missed five tackles for a miss percentage of 7.1 percent.
As for Jones he recorded 44 tackles with 17 tackles for loss, 15.5 sacks, 29 quarterback hits, 46 pressures, four passes defended, one fumble recovery, and a snap percentage of 80 percent. He missed only one tackle for a miss percentage of 2.2 percent. Threw the air he got targeted five times allowing four receptions for 47 yards.
When it comes to the favorite for Defensive Player of the Year it is Bosa and that is for obvious reasons. He recorded 51 tackles including 19 for loss, 48 quarterback hits, 56 pressures, two forced fumbles, and a pass defended. Like Jones, he missed only one tackle, his missed tackle percentage was 1.9 percent and snap percentage was 74 percent.
Now Bosa was also targeted thee times and he allowed all three passes to get caught, yet only allowed six yards on those completions.
When it comes to Reddick he recorded 49 tackles with 11 tackles for loss, 26 quarterback hits, 41 pressures, five forced fumbles, three passes defended, three fumble recoveries, and a snap percentage of 74 percent. the air he got targeted 12 times allowing seven catches for 87 yards.
He also missed five tackles for a missed tackle percentage of 9.3 percent.
Parsons got the nod over Reddick due to making more tackles, more tackles for loss, had one more quarterback hit in the same amount of pressures, had the fumble recovery for the touchdown, the lower missed tackle percentage, and allowed less yards when targeted.
How about Jones then? He had more tackles for loss, more quarterback hits, more pressures, more passes defended, a significantly less missed tackle percentage, and allowed less yards when being targeted.
Interestingly enough both Reddick and Bosa ended up with the same snap percentage.
Still Bosa in one less game had more tackles, more tackles for loss, more sacks, more quarterback hits, significantly more pressures, and a significantly lower missed tackle percentage, and significantly less yardage allowed when being targeted.
So when it comes to being snubbed, Reddick was not.
