LAS VEGAS — The biggest game of the 2014 NBA Summer League featured Jabari Parker and Andrew Wiggins. And it did not disappoint.
A soldout crowd of 10,000 spectators were there to watch the top two draft picks of the 2014 NBA draft in Jabari Parker and Andrew Wiggins.
There was also intrigue in how will Giannis Antetokounmpo play after showing a lot of potential in his Rookie season with the Bucks last year.
Fans were also looking to see last year’s number one overall draft pick in Anthony Bennett and whether he would bounce back from a disappointing rookie season, where he was labelled “the worst number one overall draft pick in the history of the NBA”.
Both Parker and Wiggins struggled early on, particularly on the offensive side. Parker was trying to force things on the offensive side of the ball, where Wiggins was hoisting three point attempts and missing, showing he still lacks NBA range.
The early stand out in the game was Anthony Bennett. He looked a lot trimmer from last year, showing NBA three point range and throwing down thunderous dunks. As the game progressed and both rookies nerves eased, Parker showed his great offensive arsenal. He was able to take the ball to the basket and also show his range to the three point line.
Not to be out done Wiggins also showed his ability in scoring the basketball from mid-range, showing off a superb step back jumper. But both were overshadowed by ‘the Greek Freak’, Giannis Antetokoumpo. His athleticism, defense and playmaking ability were the standout feature of the second half of the game.
Unfortunately, for spectators the game pitted out as both Wiggins, Parker and Bennett ran out of steam, with Cleveland celebrating a two-point victory on the day the King returned home.
