Today is college basketball signing day for 2014 basketball recruits and the University of Kansas scored a big time recruit in Chicago native Cliff Alexander the no.3 prospect.
Yet, it came with controversy as Alexander’s lack of maturity came to the forefront with his decision to first make it seem as if he were reaching for an Illinois hat and then at that last second grabbing a Jayhaks hat. The powerforward played in the EYBL 17U for the Mac Irvin Fire averaging 16 points, 11.4 rebounds, 1.1 assists on 58.7 percent shooting, 40 percent from beyond the arc and 60 percent from the free throw line in 18 games.
Jay Williams a Men’s College Basketball Analyst for ESPN has already ripped the move and Illinois fans aren’t thrilled with the move either. Here’s a look at some of the Tweets applauding Williams and condemning Alexander:
Glad that @RealJayWilliams called out Cliff Alexander on air after doing that. Being a kid doesn’t excuse showing disrespectful behavior.

After committing to Kansas over Illinois, Cliff Alexander was asked why he picked up the wrong hat. He said his teammates told him to do it.

I hope Cliff Alexander blows out both of his knees

I already dislike Cliff Alexander for that punk hat move.

Even if Alexander’s teammates advised him to do it he’s old enough to realize that’s a move that is out of line and completely disrespectful. It’s also never a good idea to have their own maturity being questioned before their college career even starts and if Kansas is smart there will be discipline for his actions such as a suspension.
