Following in the footsteps of NBC’s prime-time musical event, The Sound Of Music and it’s widely criticized Peter Pan, another popular franchise is making its way to the small screen.
Fox has announced its plans for an upcoming made for television version of the popular musical Grease. Like its predecessors, Grease will be a live television event, with Julianne Hough (Rock of Ages, Dancing With the Stars) starring as Sandy Olson.
In addition, Fox has recently announced High School Musical star Vanessa Hudgens will play the role of Rizzo. Both actresses sounded ecstatic to play the role when speaking to Entertainment Weekly.
“Grease is one of the movies that made me want to be an entertainer, and I have literally been waiting my whole life to play Sandy,” Hough said.
Added Hudgens:
“Being Rizzo is something I’ve never imagined, and I love that because it will be a new challenge. She is such an iconic character that continues to transcend generations. I cannot wait to bring her to life on live television. I’m going to be a Pink Lady!”
Grease is one of the most beloved musicals of all time. Hudgens’ and Hough’s on-screen experience will benefit the on-screen adaptation of Grease, as both have starred in television or movie musicals in the past. No premiere date has been set for Grease, but things “better shape up” as the anticipation is for this television event is growing greater every day.
