The Oakland Athletics have announced the signings of six minor league free agents adding four relievers, a starting pitcher and a second basemen.
Matt Buschmann originally a 15th round pick by the San Diego Padres in the 2006 MLB Draft spent his 2013 season with the Tampa Bay Rays organization spending time between Double-A and Triple-A. In 29 games including 28 starts he went 14-5 with a 2.86 era, struck out 167 and walked 67 and threw 160.2 innings.
Deryk Hooker spent most of his season in Double-A before getting called up to Triple A where he made 15 appearances in the St. Louis Cardinals organization. The right-handed pitcher appeared in a combined 54 games, finished 23, picked up eight saves, had a record of 1-4 with 75 strikeouts to 18 walks in 67.2 innings.
Jeremy McBryde a 26-year old righty pitched in Double-A and appeared in 61 games. He recorded a record of 4-4 with 73 strikeouts and 15 walks, he finished 30 while saving 15, threw 61.1 innings and finished with a 2.35 era.
Fernando Nieve re-signed with the A’s though he spent most of his 2013 in Triple-A for the Cleveland Indians. Between both teams he appeared in 29 games with three starts, had a record of 6-3 with a 1.89 era, finished seven games and struck out 64 while walking 14 in 57 innings.
Jose Flores another member of the Indians organization spent his 2013 in Double-A. He went 7-3, with a 2.71 era in 59 games with 53 games finished while picking up 16 saves, struck out 87 while walking 27 in 66.1 innings.
Jose Martinez a second basemen played in 81 games for the Houston Astros Triple-A team and eight in Double-A. The infielder hit .299 with 101 hits, 41 runs scored, 20 doubles, a triple, six home runs, 50 rbi, walked 19 times and struck out 31 times and a OBP of .334.
