In case you don’t know who the stunning woman in NFL Network’s new Thursday Night Football theme song, the answer is Bollywood actress and singer, Priyanka Chopra.
Thanks to her sexy and catchy Bollywood/EDM(electronic dance music) dance-pop song, “In My City” both casual and diehard NFL fans are left wondering, “Who is this woman?”
A native of Jamshedpur, India, the 31-year-old former Miss World pageant winner is one of the biggest stars in Bollywood. The single, released in September of 2012 under Interscope, was produced by RedOne and features former Black Eyed Peas front man, will.i.am, appears that both the NFL and Bollywood may hay struck proverbial gold in landing new audiences.
With the NFL looking at expanded it’s brand worldwide—preferably with a NFL franchise in London, Chopra’s single caught on quickly in India, in going triple platinum on the Hindu pop charts and despite trending on Twitter minutes after it’s debut on Thursday Night Football, it didn’t quite catch on so quickly in the United States, in getting only 5,000 digital downloads, mixed reviews and no radio play.
Despite this, Chopra has now helped Bollywood break into the American mainstream with her song, and with her second song, “Exotic” with Miami-based rapper, Pitbull debuting at No. 16 on the Billboard/Electronic Songs, it seems that Chopra and her new exotic brand are here to stay.
