8 Tips to Spice up Your Long-Distance Relationship

Being in a long-distance relationship means that sometimes you won’t be able to do things that normal couples do. However, it doesn’t mean your relationship needs to be dull. A bit of imagination, creativity, and will could make up for all the miles between the two of you. Read on and find out how you can spice up your relationship and make it more stable in spite of the distance.

Watch the same TV show

Just because you can’t sit together on the couch and enjoy a good show together doesn’t mean you can’t watch it separately at your homes at the same time.

It will make you feel you have your thing that you do together and you can even text each other in real-time. That will make you feel like your loved one is close to you.

Ask what you’ve always wanted to know about your boo

The distance shouldn’t be the reason why the two of you can’t connect even more. There are probably many questions you wanted to ask your partner, so a Skype date is the perfect opportunity to get to know each other even better.

Questions like “If you could go back in time, where would you go?” or “If you could change only one thing in the world, what would it be?” can be extremely interesting and fun but they will also create new ties between the two of you. If you need ideas, there are plenty of these types of questions online to spark the conversation.

Unexpected gifts

There’s nothing better than being surprised by a lovely, thoughtful gift delivered at your address out of the blue.

If you have skillful hands, then craft something that your partner can put on display or keep beside their bed. You could also buy something online – the choices are almost limitless, you just need to know what your partner would enjoy most. Another lovely alternative is flowers. Women enjoy getting wonderful bouquets, and with the fact that it’s possible to even send flowers overseas, no reason why you shouldn’t pick out her favorite flowers and put a smile on her face.

In case you want to mark your anniversary, go for a romantic gift. If you want to send a gift just out of fun, then a funny one will do the trick. A sexy gift is perfect when you want to announce the fun you’ll have when you finally meet – it’s the sweet torture of waiting that makes it exciting. And finally, practical gifts like soft cushions or a warm blanket are great for an everyday surprise that shows you are thinking of your other half.

Use a couple’s app

With the constant development of the internet, there are tons of practical apps that make our lives easier. The same goes for romantic couples. Some apps were made specifically for couples so that the couple can play a game together, make a list of their future travel destinations or even send each other a kiss by pressing their thumbs on the phone screen. It’s cute, right?

Write love letters

The development of technology has made communication incredibly easy but there is something deeply romantic about a hand-written letter that you get by mail. Someone may say it’s old-fashioned but we say it’s incredibly cute and original.

If you don’t have a knack for writing long letters, then you can simply stick to cute postcards. The joy of waiting for a letter or a postcard to appear in the mailbox is something the two of you should experience.

As a bonus, you can spray the letter with the perfume/cologne that you regularly use, so that your loved one can be reminded of your smell.

A surprise visit

This act only works well if the two of you are in a stable, trusting relationship. Otherwise, your sudden visit could be interpreted as spying or trying to catch the other one in a compromising situation.

In order for the surprise to work perfectly, it would be best if just a few people know about it, if anyone. For example, you can reach a reliable person that spends time with your boo so that you make sure both of them are out of the apartment in case you want to wait for them when they come back. Make sure the person who knows you’re coming doesn’t say it to anybody else. Otherwise, someone will spill the truth and everything be ruined. If you play it right, the expression on your boo’s face will be priceless.

Date night via Skype

It’s not necessary to Skype every night to tell everything you did or ate that day. You can catch up via texts, emails or social media, just enough for your loved one to know you’re thinking of them. Using Skype too often will just kill the mood, so make your webcam sessions less frequent and more special and exciting.

Choose a night when both of you are free, buy the same drink, and spend a night talking or watching the same film. It would be a date night, so you will do your best to create wonderful, intimate moments.

Create a countdown

If you are apart and date important to the both of you is approaching, use some of the free countdown apps that allow you to look forward to the date that means so much to you. You can use a photo of you two as the background and make the count visible. Anytime you or your boo feel lonely or overwhelmed by emotions brought on by the distance, you can take a look at the countdown. It will remind you that it’s only a matter of days when the two of you will be together again or when you will celebrate your anniversary.

Final words

A long-distance relationship can work, as long as both of you are invested in it and have the will to keep the flame going. It’s the little, creative things that count the most.
