It seems that someone else has left Global Force Wrestling. In 2017, the Hardys, Mike and Maria Kanellis, Drew McIntyre, and Matt Morgan have left the company. You can now add Davey Richards to that list. It was reported a few days back that the former tag team champion has been released. However, he is not retiring completely from the industry.
As it was reported, he is just going to not be a full time wrestler anymore. It is understandable for someone to reduce there schedule in wrestling. Davey Richards has been wrestling since 2004 and has wrestled for such promotions as Ring of Honor, Total Nonstop Action, Global Force Wrestling, New Japan Pro Wrestling, and CZW to name a few of them. While we usually see someone retire due to an injury, he is just stepping away to focus his career on becoming a doctor and a husband. As of now, it is unknown if his wife, Angelina Love, will follow her husband’s route.
I would like to make it clear that I didn’t see Richards when he was in Ring of Honor and CZW. I saw him when he was with Eddie Edwards in the Wolves. These two guys ended up dominating the tag team scene of TNA for a couple of years. I would also have to say my favorite feud that was with the Wolves was when them, the Dudley Boyz, and the Hardys had their run of matches while they were doing taping in New York City.
When they broke up the Wolves, I thought they were going to push Davey Richards. However, he ended up getting injured and thus being put on the shelf for some time. This ended up giving Eddie the time to get a minor push with the TNA World title. The breakup of Richards and Edwards wouldn’t happen until Richards came back earlier in 2017.
It seemed Richards was not being booked properly when he turned heel. It reminds me of the WWE turning Dolph Ziggler heel. It was needed to help his character, but neither superstar was booked the right way. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for Davey Richards.
