With wide receiver Justin Blackmon suspended indefinitely and Cecil Shorts III out with a hamstring injury for the Jacksonville Jaguars to start the 2014 season, it has given Allen Hurns an opportunity to step up and make a name for himself.
He led Jacksonville in receiving during the preseason and evidently at this rate he will lead the team during the regular season as well. The first two receptions of his career one of 34 yards and the other 21 resulted in touchdowns and his third catch of the day put him over 100 yards receiving.
Surprisingly the two touchdowns came off turnovers from Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Nick Foles. Hurns finished the first half with four receptions and 110 yards and the Jaguars held a 17-0 lead.
According to Hurns’ scouting report he is “an underneath, zone receiver, Hurns emerged as the Hurricanes’ top go-to receiver as a senior. Runs a lot of simple, stationary, short-to-intermediate routes and could have a more difficult time shaking NFL cornerbacks.”
Hurns has wasted no time showcasing that he can produce at the NFL level.
