Boston Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo suffered a broken bone in his left hand after falling at his home Thursday, Rondo is claiming his injury happened when he slipped in the shower.

Rondo underwent successful surgical fixation of his left metacarpural fracture Friday morning at New England Baptist Hospital. It is expected that it will take 6-8 weeks for Rondo hand to heal and be back to normal, and will reportedly miss the first 10-15 games of the season.

It is said that a metacarpural fracture is a closed fist injury or a “boxer’s fracture”. Nevertheless, we’re almost forced to give Rondo the benefit of the doubt here, if he said he slipped in the shower then that is what happened.

Rondo just recently fully recovered from ACL surgery that limited him to 30 games last season and now he is going to be out again, the Celtics were expected to count on his playing skills.  Without him, who knows how the Celtics are going to play this year.

Last year, Rondo’s recuperation from the knee surgery he suffered midway through 2012-13 season, and his healing, was a slow process that limited his minutes and prevented him from playing back-to-back nights.  Rondo averaged 11.7 points, 9.8 assists and 5.5 rebounds per game.

The Celtics will once again will be starting their season without their All-Star player. It will give the No. 6 overall pick, Marcus Smart quality playing time.

Rondo is right-handed and a passing wizard who can handle the ball with either hand.  The injury to his left hand could limit his cross-over mobility and stifle some of his creativity. Rondo shot 47.5 percent from the field and was held to just 40.3 percent last season.
