The Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan statistical area is massive. It contains around 7.76 million people. This makes the area equivalent in population to other major metropolitan centers like London, England, and New York City. It is the largest urban area in the entire southern United States.

In recent years, Dallas and Fort Worth have developed large high-tech economies, leading to the area being referred to as the ‘Silicone Prairie’. The emergence of this high-tech economy has led to a huge influx of new residents from all around the world. If you want to raise a family or just want to get away from the intense speed of life in the inner city, you might want to consider moving to one of the more suburban neighborhoods in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Here are some of the best suburban zones to live in locally.

Southlake

Southlake is (as the name suggests) located to the south of the massive Lake Grapevine. It is a bustling suburb that lies just over 20 miles away from the economic hub of Dallas. It is a great place to raise a family. There are outdoor activity centers, paleontology trails, and kids birthday party places in Southlake Texas that are perfect for young families. The biggest draw to Southlake has to be the lake itself. Lake Grapevine is a massive artificial reservoir built to prevent local creeks from spilling over. It is perfect for fishing, boating, or watersports.

University Park

University Park is a suburban town dominated by the grand buildings of the Southern Methodist University. The area has genuine small-town charm, but is only 20 minutes away from downtown Dallas. There is a true feeling of community in Snyder Square, the central plaza that serves as the town’s hub. You’ll need to be relatively well off to afford a property in this neighborhood. The average house price is just over 1 million dollars. The schools in the area are known to be extremely good.

Coppell

Coppell was a small farming village until the opening of the Dallas-Fort Worth airport in the 1950s. Its proximity to the new airport caused it to blossom into a fully-fledged town, with many corporations setting up their national or Southern distribution centers there. Today, the town is a relatively affluent area that stretches all the way out to the border with Denton County. It is the tenth most affluent city in Texas.

Frisco

Frisco is a large suburb with its own proud history. It contains the National Videogame Museum and a very good heritage center with many fascinating items of interest to railway buffs. Frisco might be a suburb, but it very much feels like its own town.

Flower Mound

Flower Mound is charmingly named after a prominent little hill that resides at the center of the town. Like Southlake, Flower Mound has great access to Lake Grapevine, making it the perfect suburb for people that want to spend time on the water.
