Tires are one of the most important assets of your vehicle that bears every sort of weather and make your road journey smooth.

But, is it the same tire that goes with every vehicle perfectly? No! It is actually a different set of tires that serves different needs.

Previously, when one could only choose between a set of Radial or bias tires is nothing but history. Today, the variety of tires you could buy depending on what special applications they serve according to varying climatic conditions. One can walk into a dealership and replace your already provided tires for a set of high-quality ones that can entirely change your on-road drive experience.

Basically, they are divided into Premium and Standard categories. Premium category is then divided into the Touring and Sporty category. Premium category also comprises of Run Flat tires and High-Speed Tires. For MUV and SUV, a different classification is there. Depending on the level of usage, categories available are All Terrain, Highway terrain, and Highway Luxury/ Highway Performance.

Touring Tires

Comfort is the main point of attraction for these tires. Comfort not only stands for driving with fewer vibrations, but also less noise levels. These premium tires are mostly preferred by people who own premium cars, especially for traveling with the family or for commuting. 

The tread patterns of such premium tires are less belligerent than Sporty tires. They have specific design features on the tread that create lesser noise. One of the top categories within premium tires is the discount tire that might have asymmetric patterns varying between “Inner” and “Outer” sides.

Sporty Tires

These are also known as Performance Tires and are specifically designed for improving the handling and grip of a vehicle. Made of softer tread rubber compounds, they are created to provide maximum grip at high speeds, particularly during wet and dry weather conditions. 

Most of the sports cars come equipped standard with these high-performance tires to boost their cornering and handling ability. These tires are also available in the automotive aftermarket for drivers seeking better performance and handling from their cars. These tires usually have aggressive tread pattern than touring and standard tires, which make them, produce a bit of noise at high speeds.

Standard Tires

These are also known as General Usage tires, which are usually the OE (original equipment) fitted tires you get with the car. The tires with the same specification are also available in the aftermarket. You can go with these tires if you are satisfied with the performance and your expectations are not very demanding. Since these are approved by OE manufacturers, mostly the performance parameters are developed for general usage. These tires generally do not burn your pockets, unlike premium tires!

High-Speed Tires

High-speed tires are available in Sporty and Touring patterns. They are designed in such a way that makes them more durable and can resist high temperatures because of high-speed rolling resistance and strong G forces during hard cornering. 

Manufacturers often use their data from motorsport applications to design such high-performance tires for road use. One can find these types of tires fitted on supercars, sports cars, and coupes that can hold the ability of higher speeds than the standard family sedan.
