Cleveland, OH – Tuesday, Aug. 4, a press conference at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse officially revealed the identity and branding for Cleveland’s upcoming WNBA expansion franchise, “Hear the Call,” which will be officially known as the Cleveland Sirens.

Many will “Hear the Call” from all over and come to see what it is all about.

The last Cleveland WNBA team, “The Rockers,” played their last game in 2003.

The inspiration for the branding was inspired by Lake Erie and Greek Mythology; the name highlights a sharp, relentless,  and magnetic regional identity (per Cleveland magazine).

It seems to go along with the Lake Erie shores: USL2 Lorain County Leviathan (owned by Andrew McDonnell) just finished their inaugural season, Lake County Captains, Lake Erie Monsters, Lake Erie Crushers, and now the Cleveland Sirens.

The team’s logo features a mythological siren arising from the waters of Lake Erie; she is holding a basketball with five distinct waves in her hair symbolizing both the five players on court and correlating with the five Great Lakes.

Even though the Sirens will share the 19,432-seat Rocket Arena with the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Sirens didn’t want to be known as the Lady  Cavaliers women’s team with wine and gold, said Sirens Executive Allison Howard.

Howard goes on to say that they love their Cavaliers, and they are such an amazing part of the organization, but this team can exist very much on the Independent side of the Cavaliers.

The Sirens revealed their team colors called “Sirens Blue” and “Erie Blue.”

“We knew this team needs to be tied to our greatest asset, Lake Erie,” said team president  Allison Howard on Tuesday.

In the first 24 hours, the WNBA franchise reported well into six figures in merchandise sales within two hours of the brand being revealed and more than 1,500 season ticket deposits. 11,000 deposits have been secured ahead of the team’s inaugural 2028 season (crainscleveland.com).

Fan Fest will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2026, from noon to 5:00 p.m. at Edgewater Park.
