Ivy and the Poison is a multidisciplinary music-theatre project created and performed by Netta Toledano. Rooted in emo-punk and alt-rock traditions, it follows the story of Ivy, a fictional character grappling with the aftermath of a psychologically abusive relationship. The project features original, guitar-driven songs that stand alone musically while contributing to a unified narrative arc. Blending live music with spoken word, the one-woman show feels like a dynamic fusion of a punk concert and a deeply personal theatrical confession.
Musically, Ivy and the Poison draws from a diverse range of influences including My Chemical Romance, Avenged Sevenfold, Chappell Roan, Mitski, and Regina Spektor. The performance carries the self-aware theatricality and emotional nuance of Bo Burnham, infusing humor, irony, and vulnerability into the intense storytelling. Each song reflects distinct stages of Ivy’s emotional journey — from obsession and codependency to betrayal, collapse, and ultimately, liberation.
Currently active in New York City, the project has also been presented internationally in Israel and continues to develop with new songs and narrative elements added regularly. It is regularly performed at intimate NYC venues, with plans underway to expand to larger stages and festivals. Beyond live shows, music from Ivy and the Poison is available on Spotify, including a full-length demo album that captures the raw emotional core of the project. Select live recordings and visual content further expand Ivy’s fictional world across platforms.
A concept album and full-length theatrical piece are currently in development, with international touring and festival submissions planned for the near future. While Ivy’s story is fictionalized, it is drawn from Netta’s own lived experience, allowing the work to authentically explore complex emotional themes such as trauma bonding, love addiction, and emotional manipulation. The result is a powerful hybrid project that merges emotionally driven music with theatrical performance, offering something fresh and resonant in the alt and emo-punk scenes.
