GREEN BAY, WI — With the official NFL franchise tag window period now open, there could be potential for landscape-altering movement among NFL quarterbacks. None other than Aaron Rodgers leaving Green Bay for the New York Jets? The question is, will he stay or will he go?

Rodgers, a Super Bowl champion (LIV) and MVP, along with being a four-time NFL Most Valuable Player (2011, 2014, 2020 and 2021), has seen his once impeccable relationship with the Green Bay front office deteriorate to the point where insiders have stated that they are “disgusted” with his behavior and are ready to move on from him to Jordan Love.

If all of this is indeed true and Rodgers does request a trade to either his hometown Raiders–as he was born and raised in Chico, before the Raiders moved to Vegas–or the New York Jets, Gang Green suddenly find themselves in the position of being the proverbial nexus of the NFL world.

Not since the days of Joe Namath, have the Jets had a bonafide box-office quarterback under center, let alone associated with the Giants’ “little brother”. Thanks to the self-implosion of former second-overall pick in QB Zach Wilson, and the one-and-done myth that was Mike White, the Jets need a player like Rodgers to help get the best out of a very promising roster, who could be a QB away from the Super Bowl.

Yes. I literally typed “Jets” and “Super Bowl” in the same sentence.

On paper, a Rodgers-to-Wilson connection should scare the living daylights out of opposing defenses alone. Let alone A-Rod handing the ball off to Breece Hall or hitting TE CJ Uzomah over the middle on a seam route. On defense, the Jets are rock solid, ranking ninth in the NFL, allowing 313.2 yards per game, and are going to be even better due to the emergence of shutdown CB Sauce Gardner and an up-and-coming defensive line that features Carl Lawson, Sheldon Rankins, Quinnen Willams and talented linebackers in Kwon Alexander and CJ Mosley.

While the Raiders may offer the glitz and glamour of playing in Sin City, the Jets are closer to playoff contention–in a much weaker division that has Mac Jones, Tua Tagovaoloa, and Josh Allen, as opposed to reigning Super Bowl champion and MVP in Patrick Mahomes, Russell Wilson, and Justin Herbert.

There is no question that Rodgers is worth the wait for New York, but how long will he be in the darkness, and how soon can Pat McAfee get a hold of him to let him know that Gotham is calling.

When he does emerge from the darkness, Rodgers would be wise to embrace the warmth of The Big Apple and step into the role of savior for a franchise that needs one and also to redeem himself in leading the Jets back to the Promised land.
