Anthony Geisler, who built multiple fitness franchises into national brands, will headline the Athletech Innovation Summit in New York next June, potentially signaling his next business move after stepping away from Xponential Fitness last year.
The June 17-18, 2025 keynote will be Geisler’s first major industry appearance since his departure from Xponential, which he founded in 2017 and built into a franchising powerhouse with thousands of locations across 48 states and more than 20 countries.
Geisler told Athletech News in a previous interview that he sees “a tremendous amount of opportunity in the fitness and wellness space, particularly in the area of technology,” fueling speculation about his next venture.
The timing of his keynote aligns with shifting industry dynamics, as boutique fitness studios continue their post-pandemic rebound while many digital fitness platforms struggle to maintain momentum.
Tech Integration Seen as Next Competitive Edge
Industry watchers expect Geisler to outline how technology integration will separate winners from losers in the next phase of fitness industry evolution.
Geisler has been outspoken about the sector’s technology gap. “The fitness and wellness spaces have been decades behind other sectors in the economy when it comes to technology,” he said in a recent interview. “I think the gap is finally going to close. The success of businesses in this space will depend on it.”
This aligns with broader market trends, as fitness operators increasingly look to enhance customer experience and operational efficiency through digital tools. Several private equity firms have recently acquired fitness technology platforms, suggesting growing investor interest in this segment.
The entrepreneur’s past ventures demonstrate his ability to standardize operations across franchise locations – a skill that translates well to technology implementation.
Weight-Loss Drugs Create New Business Opportunities
The surge in GLP-1 weight-loss medications presents both challenges and opportunities for fitness operators, a topic Geisler is expected to address.
“GLP-1s cause patients to burn 50 percent muscle mass. That is a huge issue that fitness brands need to address — and can help offset — with weight training,” Geisler noted in a previous interview.
This perspective suggests new business models could emerge at the intersection of pharmaceutical treatments and fitness services – potentially creating partnership opportunities between healthcare providers and gym operators.
For investors, this confluence of trends represents a potential new growth area in an industry that has historically been vulnerable to fads and economic cycles.
Community Experience Remains Competitive Moat
Despite embracing technology, Geisler maintains that physical fitness locations provide benefits that digital alternatives cannot replicate.
“It is very hard to build community digitally,” he explained. “People are social animals. They get better results and more satisfying workouts when they’re in the same room together.”
This assessment appears supported by market performance, as companies with physical locations that weathered the pandemic have generally recovered more strongly than digital-only fitness offerings.
Serial Entrepreneur With Track Record of Growth
Geisler’s credibility with investors stems from his history of identifying and scaling fitness concepts. After transforming LA Boxing into a national franchise before selling the business, he acquired Club Pilates in 2015 when it had approximately 30 locations.
Under his leadership, Club Pilates expanded significantly before becoming one of the cornerstone brands within Xponential Fitness, which grew to include multiple fitness concepts including StretchLab, Pure Barre, and Rumble Boxing.
The entrepreneur’s ability to standardize operations and marketing across diverse fitness modalities created a template that has been widely emulated within the boutique fitness segment.
Beyond his business ventures, Geisler has established several philanthropic initiatives, including the Geisler Family WINGS building at The Pegasus School in Huntington Beach, California, and received the 2024 Miracle Maker Award from Miracles for Kids for his support of families with critically ill children.
The Athletech Innovation Summit is expected to draw fitness operators, investors, and technology developers looking to capitalize on emerging industry trends. According to event organizers, early registration has been strong following the announcement of Geisler’s keynote.
