The Frisco RoughRiders, Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, defeated the Midland RockHounds Tuesday night, 1-0. Top-prospect Yohander Mendez dazzled across seven innings, shutting down the Oakland Athletics affiliate. With Tuesday’s win, the RoughRiders open the second half of the season strong.
Left-handed pitcher Yohander Mendez ranked as the Rangers No. 2 prospect heading into the game and gave the RoughRiders a quality start. He tossed 7.0 innings of three-hit baseball. Mendez allowed no runs, no walks, and struck out seven batters. He earned the win, improving to 5-4 on the season. Mendez’s performance Tuesday, and Collin Wiles’ outing Monday, gives the RoughRiders back-to-back quality starts.

Reed Garrett and Nick Gardewine combined to close out the game in scoreless relief. Garrett threw one inning, giving up just one hit. He walked one and struck out one. Gardewine earned the save, pitching one inning of perfect baseball. He punched out two batters along the way.
Seven RoughRiders got hits in the matchup, with Michael DeLeon and Eric Aguilera being the two who were left out. The only run for Frisco came on a single from Jose Cardona in the fourth inning, that sent the go-ahead run home.
