As a part of our Dota 2 beginner’s guides, we bring you the ultimate guide to playing Viper.

Viper is an agility-ranged hero and is decently durable, making him a good choice for new players. Viper’s abilities are easy to understand and use.

You can play Viper in offlane or mid-lane. Your abilities, like poison attack, help you play aggressively in mid-lane, and corrosive skin will help you sustain yourself as a solo in off-lane. Viper’s abilities
Poison attack adds extra effect to your auto attacks. This attack will slow the enemy’s movement speed and reduce their magic resistance. It also reduces the enemy’s armour and does damage over time. It can stack up to five times and has no cooldown.

With a fairly low mana cost, this is your perfect ability to harass the enemies during the laning phase.

Nethertoxin is Viper’s AOE ability. Use this ability on a targeted area, enemy units in that area will have reduced attack speed and will take damage based on how long they stayed in that spell.

Perfect ability to use in team fights or zone your enemy during the laning phase. You can also use this ability to clear creep waves faster and push the lane.

Corrosive skin is Viper’s passive ability. Any enemy unit that attacks Viper within 1200 units will have their attack speed reduced and take damage.

This ability also provides Viper with a decent percentage of magic resistance, making him naturally durable against magic damage.

Viper Strike is Viper’s ultimate ability. It is a single-target spell that will slow the enemy’s movement speed by up to 80% and does massive damage over time.

Viper Strike will also disable enemies’ passive abilities, making Viper a threat against heroes like Bristleback, Spectre, Dragonknight, etc.

Nosedive can be unlocked by buying Aghanim’s scepter. This is an active spell and can disarm enemies within 500 AOE. It also applies the effect of corrosive skin on enemies around Viper (1200 units).

Recommended build
●  Start by maxing out poison attack first and corrosive skin second. Take 1 point in Nethertoxin at level 8 and max out this ability in the last.

●  Take your ultimate ability whenever it is available, i.e., at levels 6, 12, and 18.

●  Talent-Tree build depends completely on your playstyle. You can decide the build on your own if you understand Viper’s abilities.

●  If you still need help deciding the talent tree, take poison attack and nethertoxin upgrades if you’re going for a DPS build, or go for a corrosive skin upgrade if you’re going for a tank build.

For item build, you can follow this basic guide: Power Threads, Yasha (into Manta later), BKB, Hurricane Pike, Butterfly, and Satanic.

Item builds completely depend upon the enemy picks and your playstyle; to stay updated, you can either use Torte de Lini or Immortal Faith’s guides that are in-built within the game.

few tips for playing Viper
●  Viper is a fairly easy-to-use beginner’s hero; try to play Viper as much as possible to master the hero.

●  Take advantage of your poison attack range and harass the enemy during laning.

●  Aghanim’s Shard will make poison attacks even stronger and also affect buildings.

●  Viper doesn’t have any escape ability; you can make a shadow blade for escape and damage( if you don’t like Hurricane Pike) and upgrade it into Silver Edge later on in the game.
