Game of Thrones

Well, last night was the end of the series 8 years was a hell of a run but as of last night, it came to an end. Now as someone who joined the Game of Thrones fad late, like the beginning of 2019 late I didn’t have the time that most invested in this series. So far, Season 8 has been anything but its normal self. The unusual and unexpected twists and turns that were present in the first 7 seasons have turned to predictable and not so unordinary. I understand how people who have been watching since 2011 can be upset with the season so far because I haven’t invested that much time but I was upset with the way this season has gone.

Previous Episodes

Last week they killed off Cersei Lannister one of the shows most hated characters, but even the way they killed off Cersei felt very unsatisfying and left most fans wanting more. I can almost forgive the writers for that but the episode itself was lackluster. Its almost like they had mentally checked out and didn’t care how season 8 played out. We saw the closure of the feud between the Hound and the Mountain, with the Hound tackling the Mountain off the tower and down into a fiery death below. We saw Daenerys become the Mad King’s true daughter and burn all of King’s Landing down to the ground. It is understandable why she did it because of all of the trauma she had incurred since this war began.

Season Finale

In the finale, I don’t know what we were expecting to happen but whatever it was we did not get it. It was yet another episode of Tyrion being thrown in jail, Jon Snow professing his love for his Aunt (Daenerys) and eventually wising up and realizing that he needed to take out Daenerys for the sake of the 7 Kingdoms. We also saw the Iron Throne melted down to nothing from Drogon’s fire as symbolism for all that was lost over that Iron Throne. In the end Jon Snow (Aegon Targaryen) ends up where he started the show on the Night’s Watch due to the fact that he killed Daenerys. On recommendation from Tyrion Lannister Bran, the Broken is nominated to be king of the 7 Kingdoms, Of Course, Sansa Stark had to say the North will remain an Independent Kingdom as it always was. Tyrion Lannister for his crimes was punished by being made Hand of the King by Bran Stark. Also assigned to his small council, was Sir Bronn of the Blackwater, Ser Brienne of Tarth, Samwell Tarly and Davos Seaworth.

My Take on the Ending

I understand the reason they went with Bran as the new leader because he can’t father children and it would start a change in the way kings were picked. But to send Jon Snow back to the night’s watch for simply doing the right thing is pointless and dumb. Maybe he shouldn’t have been the ruler of the 7 Kingdoms but he could have gone back to Winterfell to be King in the North.  I don’t like keeping him alive to send him to the Wall. I hope that HBO has a spinoff lined up with Arya Stark maybe they can title it West of Westeros which is where she is sailing to currently.  It would be great to see more of her as she was by far one of the best characters on the show.
