Are you looking for the perfect golf course but don’t want to travel south? Don’t worry- Ohio has everything you could want in a golf course and more! Check out the top 8 golf courses and resorts in Ohio for your next golf getaway.

1. Camargo Club, Cincinnati

Those with a sharp eye for golf architecture will be delighted by the Camargo Club. This course boasts four holes, with the cut to fairway length. This was one of the last courses designed by the late Seth Raynor. After a mishap of trendy design that was implemented in the 80s, the green is now back to it’s original design under the watchful eye of Tom Doak and is a delightful hidden gem to play.

This course has five tees, three at par 70 and two at par 74. It features bent grass and is known for its routing and one-shotters. The club itself has cart and club rentals as well as a bar and restaurant for a post-game celebration. However, at #44 of the top US golf courses, it’s elusive to play. To get in, you need a member’s invitation.

2. Muirfield Village Golf Club, Dublin

No expense was spared in constructing the Muirfield course with bunkers and water hazards that provide a great challenge for players of all skill levels. Fairways that require accurate tee shots and the greens wrap around a winding creek for an added challenge. This Jack Nicklaus design attracts players from all over the world.

The variation of hole shot values makes this course complex and alluring for all skill-level players. At Muirfield, there are six tees, all at par 74, and 18 holes featuring bent grass. The club features cart and club rentals as well as a driving range for some practice.

3. Sawmill Creek Resort, Huron

Sawmill Creek is a beautiful and newly renovated golf resort. Its renovations were completed in 2022, and the course is primed and ready for golfers of all skill levels. The course offers 18 holes, with large undulating putting surfaces that challenge even the greatest of players. Their 195-yard seventh hole is notoriously the hardest challenge and is looked forward to by many players.

The course gives two distinct feelings, a more northern feeling with Lake Erie to the north and a more southern, Carolinas feeling with beautiful weeping willow trees. If you’re looking for a weekend golf getaway, this resort has 239 guest rooms and suites, a marina, a beach, and restaurants to make a lovely weekend stay. Sawmill Creek Resort, amongst a few others, offers great golf packages in Ohio.

4. The Golf Club, New Albany

Don’t be fooled by it’s unassuming name. The Golf Club is easily one of Pete Dye’s most unassumingly beautiful and challenging courses and is severely underrated. Having hosted no major tournaments, not a lot is known about this course, except the fact that it catches the eye and admiration of some of the world’s best golf architects. A variety of grasses give the 18 holes a more heathland feel, and Dye’s famous railroad ties and pot bunkers are in abundance here.

The course has five tees at par 72 and is a great walking course. Many players say this modern and minimalistic course has excellent replayability, and it’s often enjoyed again and again by members.

5. Firestone Country Club, Akron

Firestone Country Club is home to three beautiful treelined courses that invite and intrigue golf enthusiasts. Its three world-class courses and 54 holes make it the perfect place for a weekend or week-long getaway. The bunkers, rolling greens, and fairways are inviting to players of all skill levels. The Fazio course includes elements from famed Tom Fazio-designed courses, like elevated vistas and strategically designed holes that delight and challenge players.

The Firestone Country Club is a small and intimate golf getaway with only 61 rooms and 30 dormitory-style rooms that add to the cozy atmosphere. It offers a great restaurant and bar that has been open since the Club’s inception in 1929. 6. Inverness Club, Toledo

The Inverness Club is a beautiful 18-hole green that was founded in 1903. It was nothing noteworthy in 1915, but in 1916, Donald Ross put this championship course on the map. It attracts players who are seeking a challenge and have a drive to improve their golf game. Please take advantage of all the clubs in your bag, you’ll definitely need them.

The course is comprised of bent grass and has five tees, all at par 71. There are many bunkers and raised sections that often confuse even the greatest of players. A stunning ravine weaves through the property, and beautiful trees line the courses. It’s definitely worth a round of golf if you’re in Ohio!

7. Scioto, Columbus

The green at Scioto carries all the markers of a fantastic course: gentle slopes, contoured ground, and subtle challenges that are designed to improve your game. It was designed by Donald Ross in 1916, with improvements made later by Jack Nicklaus. The green features seven tees, four at par 71, one at par 70, and two at par 73.

Although the first few holes are notoriously challenging, the rest of the holes will surprise and delight you. The historic stone walls and clubhouse really add that old-world golf charm.

8. Bertram Inn at Glenmoor Country Club, Canton

The historic Bertram Inn is the perfect place for golf and history enthusiasts. The brick building was built in 1931 as a school and is now home to 57 guest rooms with amenities like multiple restaurants, tennis, a spa, an outdoor pool, and a fitness center. Their in-house country club, Glenmoor, is a tranquil setting for a day on the green.
