Often referred to as the land of bright beaches and nightlife, Goa has a lot more to offer to the adventurous traveler. In case one wants to seek solace from these teeming hotspots, there are plenty of hidden gems in Goa waiting to be discovered. So, let us come to such serene locales where the whispers of ancient tales of mystique and beauty gush from nature.

Hidden Beaches and Secluded Shores

Butterfly Beach:

This beautiful piece of silver-white sandy treasure with clear waters is located around the headland, to the south of Palolem, accessible either by a ferry from Palolem or a two-hour trek through the forests.

It’s an ideal place for those people who like an adventure in their relaxation and offers breathtaking views of frolicking dolphins from the open sea. Come and visit in the early morning to enjoy the brilliant shining sun.

Kakolem Beach:

Also known as the ‘lost beach’, this is one of the most hidden beaches of Goa. Descent down to this beach is an adventure—down the steep cliff. But what awaits you is a breathtakingly pristine beach hardly touched by human footsteps—an ideal haunt for complete solitary day.

Galgibaga Beach:

With a conservation motive, this beach is known as a potential breeding site of the critically endangered Olive Ridley turtles and offers human inhabitants a rare privilege of nature’s delicate balance.

Perhaps best of all, some species make their nests in the nests of other birds, and therefore the reproductive success of the species may actually be connected. Knowing that, a visit during the nesting season can be a humbling experience—reminding one of the resilience of nature. Just make sure you don’t.

Secret waterfalls and a small cove

Hivre Waterfalls:

These twin waterfalls at Hivre, amidst dense forests, are at their best after monsoons. The picnicker spots around the falls have some very interesting settings, with lots of shallow pools at one’s disposal for a refreshing dip.

Arvalem Waterfall:

This is a very beautiful waterfall in close setting to the ancient Arvalem Caves, so it beckons the serious photographer or nature lover. There is a nearby park that provides great picnicking spots for families.

Mayem Lake:

Green and full of flora, it’s amongst those places that call for every single one finding peace and tranquility. Enjoy boating or take in tranquil views over the lake, perhaps catching a local angler at work who can provide you with insights into Goan life.

Netravali Wildlife Sanctuary

The human species witnesses wilderness in its best form at Netravali, where flora and fauna in abundant variety find their natural habitation. Guided treks may find you from thick foliage to places where the birds are chirping, and if you are lucky enough, a few chipmunks will be found in between for your ears.

This is an important area for conservation that offers a window into Goa’s biodiversity.

Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary

Being lucky in case this place is visited, it offers a chance to meet some of the most spread wildlife species, though they are very shy at their dwelling. Camp somewhere in the vicinity of one of the waterholes, and you may find yourself observing deer, gaurs, and maybe even leopards one night. An interesting way is the wilderness both for lovers of animals and nature.

Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary

This park, with the popular Dudhsagar Falls, is almost a trekkers’ hotspot and nature lovers. The falls look very beautiful, especially during monsoons, and the sanctuary itself is a biodiversity.

Hiking Trails and Mystical Mountains

Sonsogor:

The highest peak in Goa, which offers views from the top that are truly heavenly. Walking along the top of it is like bracing, and the panoramic views in every direction are making the walk exceptionally worthwhile. This place is also quite off the beaten track via a common pathway, so the quiet one finds here is unbeatable.

Trek to Todo Waterfalls:

Equally beautiful but hidden, this is another treasure of Goa less frequented. The trek path is very dense due to the underbrush and crisscrossed by sharp, rocky routes. After having traveled quite far and a long journey, the fall is beautiful as it cascades into a crystalline pool.

Chorla Ghat:

Ideal for visiting during the monsoons, this rich biodiverse location is the dwelling of fascinating, lush landscapes and a cool, misty climate. It’s a sanctuary for those looking to connect deeply with nature.

Order The lesser-known natural wonders in Goa offer more than just a refreshing change from regular tourist activities; they allow for connecting personally with nature and give a chance to view Goa in an entirely different limelight.
When in Goa next, give in to the explorer in you and find a lot more experiences that make Goa truly special. Discover the hidden gems of Goa, because for you, a trip here is not a visit but a discovery.
