For Donovan Burgmaier, life has always been about more than just winning on the football field—it’s about making an impact. Hailing from Sherwood Park, Alberta, Donovan has transformed from a student-athlete into a determined future educator with a mission to uplift the next generation through mentorship, leadership, and compassion. As he works toward a double major in Native Studies and Secondary Education at the University of Alberta, Donovan embodies the spirit of resilience, integrity, and service.
Donovan Burgmaier’s journey began at Salisbury Composite High School, where his passion for football took root. That passion would carry him onto the field as a defensive lineman for the University of Alberta Golden Bears, where he played from 2018 to 2022. More than just a player, Donovan was a leader among his peers—bringing energy, commitment, and a drive to succeed that inspired those around him.
But it wasn’t only football that shaped Donovan’s path. His academic pursuits reflect a deeper desire to foster understanding and inspire change. By majoring in Native Studies and Biology within a Bachelor of Education program, Donovan is equipping himself to teach not just facts, but empathy, identity, and critical thinking—values that are often missing in traditional education settings.
Donovan Burgmaier’s life outside the classroom and away from the football field is equally focused on community. He has spent years volunteering with organizations like Kids Kottage, where he’s helped children in crisis, and Santa’s Anonymous, helping distribute toys during the holiday season. As a VOICE Ambassador, Donovan actively supports gender-based violence prevention programs, underscoring his dedication to advocacy and positive social change.
“I want to make a difference in people’s lives,” Donovan Burgmaier says. “There aren’t enough good teachers out there, so I want to be one of them.” His authenticity shines through in every role he takes on, whether he’s coaching at the Peak School of Football, mentoring young athletes at the Golden Bears Football Academy, or working the front desk at the Turf Training Centre, where he continues to stay connected to the sport he loves while balancing work and study.
What sets Donovan Burgmaier apart is his long-term vision. He doesn’t just want to teach—he wants to lead. His goal is to eventually transition into a principal role, where he can shape the culture of a school from the top down, promoting inclusivity, integrity, and accountability. Along the way, he hopes to build an athletic gym and own multiple properties—both personal dreams and platforms for greater community impact.
Donovan’s aspirations don’t end in Alberta. With a dream to travel the world before turning 30, he’s already explored Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic and has his sights set on destinations like Australia, Thailand, and Europe. These global ambitions speak to a man who understands that growth doesn’t come from comfort zones—it comes from new experiences, cultural exchange, and constant learning.
In every chapter of his life so far, Donovan Burgmaier has chosen service over spotlight and integrity over recognition. From the gridiron to the classroom, his story is one of perseverance, purpose, and promise. As he moves closer to becoming a full-time educator, one thing is clear: Donovan isn’t just preparing to teach—he’s preparing to lead.
