INSCMagazine: Get Social!

A little bit funny, a little bit sexy, and a little bit quirky. Cat Eyes are the most comic book of sunglass styles. When Great Aunt Ingrid wore them back in the day, they looked plain terrifying, but after forty years in the wilderness Cat Eyes are back with a Meoww and the celebs just can’t get enough of them.

Australian designer Poppy Lissiman’s micro Cat Eyes, in glossy acetate, went viral after being taken up by the likes of Emily Ratajkowski, Adwoa Aboah and the Hadid sisters and Cat Eyes in all their glorious variety are now all over the cat walks, kind of appropriate when you think about it. So, if you’re feline like you’d like a pair, here are a few considerations to take into account before hand.

Face Shape Matters

Starting with round faces, they tend to suit larger, angular Cat Eyes, whilst square faces suit larger, rounded Cat Eyes. Unlike say, Wayfarers, Cat Eyes don’t suit everyone, so you really need to put in the mirror time until you find the pair that really does suit you.

Cat Eyes Need Co-ordinating

You know those sunglasses that you keep in your bag because they go with everything? Well Cat Eyes aren’t them. You need to think about hair and clothing. Cat Eyes are shouty so don’t have too much else going on, hold back on the chunky jewellery and clashing colors. Having said that, Cat Eyes need confidence, so wear them with pride and delight.

Choose Appropriate Lenses

Now let’s not forget, sunglasses serve an important purpose. They protect your eyes, right. So, in your rush to get the grooviest pair of frames on the block, don’t forget that the most important part of a pair of sunglasses are actually the lenses. Choose something that’s going to give you 100% protection from those harmful UV rays.

Choose a Brand

Your Cat Eyes will get noticed. Choose a good quality pair that’ll last, recommendable when your friend asks, “where did you get those stunning cat-eyes from?” Brands like Emporio Armani, Persol and Miu Miu all create gorgeous frames which are bound to stun.

Color

You’ve got the color of the frame and the color of the lens to think about. Micro Cat Eyes look great with brilliantly colored frames but be aware that you are not going to be able to wear them with everything. Neutral colors are obviously going to give you a lot more options. As for lens colors, well, in my humble opinion you are best off sticking with black. If you do choose a vibrant color for you frames, working in the rule of three can help, and keep your outfit quite neutral. Like the woman in the image above, who is working basic makeup and shirt with the vibrant red of her earrings, lipstick and frames.
