New York Jets: Offensive Preview – How will they score points in 2017?

The New York Jets offense in 2016 was not very good and there was no secret about this. They ended up 5-11 and that was actually an overachievement. The entire team was a mess but for the 2017 season, all eyes will be on the offense, more specifically the QB position.  The Jets had the number 5 pick in the draft and all QB’s were still on the board with the exception of Mitchell Trubisky as he went #2 overall. So with them not taking a QB that leaves this offense in the hands of either free agent signing Josh McCown or youngsters Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg. Hackenberg needs to prove himself as he was a second Round selection but has not lived up to the hype yet.

The Jets let Eric Decker and Brandon Marshall walk and will be hoping that Quincy Enunwa can be the #1 receiver as he showed flashes of greatness in 2016. Also, what will they get out of undrafted free agent Robby Anderson who showed promise at some points but is still raw? The Jets also drafted two WRs in the draft Ardarius Stewart and Chad Hensen, in addition to grabbing a TE Jordan Leggett.  This shows me that they know that the offense definitely needs to rebuild because what we saw last year was not good. The running game was a decent middle of the road as it ranked 12th in the league but Forte averaged career low numbers in yards per carry last season.

The offensive line is being rebuilt as well, as the Jets let Nick Mangold their all-star center go to see what they have with Wesley Johnson the 4th year pro. Right Tackle job will be a good competition to watch during training camp and during the preseason. It will be between the proven vet Ben Ijalana and second-year pro, Brandon Shell.

Overall, it is going to be a tough season for fans of the New York Jets. The only shot for Hope Jet fans will have is that through this season, they can find their QB of the future in either Hackenberg or Petty and if not then it will be time to look to the draft to find a QB of the future.
