“Unchained Melody” the cover by The Righteous Brothers is one of the most recognizable cover songs of all-time. It was released on July 17, 1965.
On YouTube there is an interview by Andy Williams regarding the name Righteous Brothers. Even more interesting though is that Bill Medley makes an admission about covering “Unchained Melody to the live audience after the song is specifically requested. Bobby Hatfield then responds with a question which was “I do that one by myself you know?”
Williams then asks “how come?”
Medley answered with “I didn’t think it was going to be a hit.”
Following up was Williams who then asks “what do you usually do when he is singing?”
The response from Medley is hilarious “find a little corner and kick myself a lot.”
Now for those who are younger their introduction to “Unchained Melody” more likely came from two movies Ghost or Naked Gun 2 1/2. Regardless of how the song was first heard, The Inscriber Magazine has come up with additional covers that are the best.
Starting off are the intstrumentals which includes a live version of “Unchained Melody” by Chris Botti featuring William Jospeh and Caroline Campbell. Then there is Epic Orchestra, Tunky Sidharta, Katrina Jackson, Angelo Torres, Dolce Ensembles, Geoff, and Gamazda.
Vocal covers of “Unchained Melody” include: Emily Linge, Elvis Presley, Lucy Thomas, The Texas Tenors, Susan Boyle, Boyce Avenue, Mezzo, Roy Orbison with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Jonathan Antoine, Gerard Joling, Vanny Vabiola, Mike Yung, JR Richards who is the lead singer of Dishwalla, Neil Diamond and released only a few hours ago Benedetta Careeta featuring Hauser.
