19. Wrestlemania 22- April 2, 2006: AllState Arena, Chicago, IL

This would actually be the last Wrestlemania that took place in an arena that didn’t house over 60,000 people. John Cena squared off against Triple H for the WWE Championship and it was one of the first times where we saw a crowd turn on Cena; a trend we would see for the next 10 years. Cena ended up getting the win by submission over Triple H. Shawn Michaels faced Vince McMahon in a No Holds Barred match; HBK lived up to his nickname of “Mr. Wrestlemania” by not only winning the match over the WWE owner, but performed a highlight reel move by diving elbow drop to McMahon off a ladder and onto a table. Edge and Mick Foley also had a classic brawl in a No Holds Barred match that saw Edge spear Foley through a flaming table. Rey Mysterio also won the World Heavyweight Championship in a triple threat match over Kurt Angle and Randy Orton.

18. Wrestlemania 5- April 2, 1989: Trump Plaza, Atlantic City, NJ

In the second of two events hosted by Donald Trump at Trump Plaza, it was the long-awaited battle of the Mega Powers, as Hulk Hogan faced off against Randy Savage, just one year after Savage won the tournament for the WWF Title, Hogan got the belt back in a solid main event match to win his second championship. Rick Rude, who will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, won his first Intercontinental Title by defeating the Ultimate Warrior. It was the Wrestlemania debut for Shawn Michaels, who at the time was part of the Rockers; they ended up losing to The Twin Towers (Akeem and the Big Boss Man). Wrestlemania 5 also saw the return on Roddy Piper, who retired two years earlier and had gone into Hollywood to make movies, as he used a fire extinguisher on another fellow actor in Morton Downey Jr. as part of his show, “Piper’s Pit.”

17. Wrestlemania 16- April 2, 2000: Arrowhead Pond, Anaheim, CA

This was the farewell match for Mick Foley, as he took part in the Fatal Four Way for the WWF Championship that had a McMahon family member in each corner, as Foley faced Triple H, The Rock and the Big Show. Once the Big Show exited early, it turned into a solid triple threat match. Triple H ended up retaining the title after defeating both Foley and then the Rock in the match. Before the TLC Match would become famous by these tag teams, Edge and Christian, The Hardy Boys and the Dudley Boys faced off in a triple threat ladder match for the WWF Tag Team Titles, a match that was won by Edge and Christian and started their reign as one of the better tag teams of the era. Chris Jericho, Chris Benoit and Kurt Angle took part in a two part match that determined the Intercontinental Title and European Title, both of which were being defended by Angle in the match. Benoit won the first fall and the Intercontinental Title, Jericho won the second and the European Title.

16. Wrestlemania 7- March 24, 1991: Los Angeles Sports Arena, Los Angeles, CA

A year earlier, this event was supposed to be held at the Los Angeles Coliseum, an event and arena that could potentially hold close to 100,000 people, but instead, was moved to the Sports Arena and held a smaller crowd. WWF said they did so because of the Iraqi-sympathizer gimmick Sgt. Slaughter was currently running during the Gulf War, but it was due to the poor ticket sales for the larger arena and changed venues. Either way, it saw Slaughter drop the WWF Title to Hulk Hogan, who had won it a third time. In a Retirement Match, The Ultimate Warrior and Randy Savage did battle in a classic match with the Warrior winning. Savage “retired,” but was really taking time off to rest. He reunited with his former manager and current wife, Miss Elizabeth after the match.  This was the initial Wrestlemania debut for the Undertaker, as his then streak started with a victory over the late Jimmy Snuka.

15. Wrestlemania 28- April 1, 2012: Sun Life Stadium, Miami, FL

A year of hype lead up to “Once in a Lifetime” Match between The Rock and John Cena, a match that ended up being the first of two matched between the iconic wrestlers. The first battle ended up going to The Rock in his hometown of Miami. One year after being one of the only good matches on the card, Triple H and the Undertaker squared off for the third time at Wrestlemania, only this time, it was in a Hell in a Cell match with Shawn Michaels as the special guest referee. The Undertaker won his third match over Triple H in another classic that saw HBK try to help his friend beat the Undertaker. CM Punk defeated Chris Jericho in the WWE Championship Match in what was an excellent match.

14. Wrestlemania 25- April 5, 2009: Reliant Stadium, Houston, TX

The 25th Anniversary of Wrestlemania had a lot of hype surrounding it; Triple H and Randy Orton battled for the WWE Championship and Triple H got the win. John Cena also won the World Heavyweight Championship in a triple threat match against the Big Show and Edge. One year before they would face off in the Streak vs. Career Match, Shawn Michaels and the Undertaker faced off for the first time at Wrestlemania and had a match for the ages. HBK came so close to ending the Undertaker’s streak, but fell just short with the Undertaker winning in a classic match that many consider as the best Wrestlemania match ever. If not for this match, Wrestlemania 25 might go a little lower on the list, but the match between the Undertaker and HBK really catapulted it on this list.

13. Wrestlemania 24- March 30, 2008: Citrus Bowl, Orlando, FL

Two years before his final match in WWE, Shawn Michaels was involved in another career ending match, only it was the career of Ric Flair that was on the line, as he needed to win to keep going as part of the storyline. Many had expected Flair to lose since he was expected to retire, and HBK and Flair had a battle for the ages with HBK mouthing “I’m sorry, I love you” to Flair before delivering Sweet Chin Music to Flair for the win. The event also saw The Undertaker win the World Heavyweight Championship with a win over Edge and Randy Orton retain the WWE Championship in a triple threat match over Triple H and John Cena. Before he was delaying fights against Manny Pacquaio and Conor McGregor, Floyd Mayweather Jr. also took part in a match that he won against the Big Show.
